JANUARY 1969

Alumni College 1969, scheduled for August 17 through 28, has taken as its overall concern "The Crisis of Values in a Changing Society." The subject is closely related to the theme chosen for a series of seminars during the Bicentennial Year, "Liberal and Professional Learning in a Changing Society."

Announcement has been made of four professors from the College who will lead the alumni in discussion of various aspects of the main theme. William W. Ballard '28, Sydney E. Junkins Professor of Biology, will consider "The Rise and Fall of Humanity." Harold L. Bond '42, Professor of English and chairman of the Alumni College planning committee, has chosen the topic "Changing Values in American Society." Professor of Anthropology James W. Fernandez has titled his course "From Generation to Genera- tion; From Culture to Culture." Gene M. Lyons, Orvil E. Dryfoos Professor of Public Affairs and Professor of Government, will deal with "The Dilemma of World Power." All of these men have selected a number of books to be read in advance by alumni attending the summer college.

The lectures and discussions from last summer's Alumni College have been collected and printed under the title of 20thCentury Reflections. Near the end of January copies of the book will be mailed to all alumni who participated in the 1968 college. Others may order copies at $5.50 each from the office of Dartmouth Alumni College, 203 Crosby Hall.
