OCTOBER 1969 ERNEST S. DAVIS JR., GEORGE N. FARRAND

October 11 is the date of our next reunion. It will be held in Hanover at the time of the Dartmouth-Penn game. George Drowne has made dinner reservations for us at the Norwich Inn, but he must know whom to expect. If you haven't already done so, please contact George c/o Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. This will be a beautiful weekend with grand foliage and plenty of hospitality if you will just make the effort to join the group.

The graduation class of 1969 had eight sons of '33. Peter Beekman, son of Al andEdna Beekman; Jeffrey Bloomberg, son of Harv and Harriet Bloomberg, received Distinction in History; William Coulson, son of Bob and Rose Coulson; William Donovan, the second son of John and Gertrude Donovan, with Distinction in History; David Foster, the second Dartmouth son of Wood andBetty Foster, with Highest Distinction in Biology; John Masten, son of Jack and LauraMasten, with Highest Distinction in History, Senior Fellow, Summa Cum Laude, James B. Reynolds Scholarship for Foreign Study and Phi Beta Kappa; Horace Shaw III, son of Horace and Laurel Shaw, with Distinction in Psychology; and Robert Smith, son of Hal and Betty Smith.

During the summer, Ted Holmes moved from Prince Edward Island to Bass Harbor, Me. He writes: "I've been cruising in my auxiliary sloop several times, have made brief trips via car to Prince Edward Island and now to New Jersey. Next month I will return to 80 Veazie St., Old Town, and to the University of Maine, English Department, where this year I am to teach American Literature, English Composition, and a hybrid called Honors."

"Dosch" Doscher has moved to Pearl River, N. Y. He sent along this news: "Vicarious claim to fame: Granddaughter born October 17, 1967 on television ("How Life Begins" - she had a social security number when she was an hour old). Her mother, Linda, and father Brewster (#2 son) are Syracuseans '59. He's sales executive with Marlene Products, New York City. #1 son, Crile (Dartmouth '56) completed three years of surgery with the Army at Heidelberg and is now working with a medical group at Mt. Vernon, Ill. - Pete Grace's region. #3 son, Bob Jr. hopes to graduate from the University of Tennessee in June. #1 daughter, Pamela will miss Van Collins at Albany State this year, and #2 daughter (Jill) will be an R.N. come next June. So, 'What do you do for aggravation'? Plenty of troubles, but I am the same old _______."

While in Hanover during the Alumni College, I saw Dave and Dorothy Flynn. This was their first year and they were thoroughly enjoying themselves. Dave was particularly interested in studying the computer programs at Kiewit. He is still playing with Ted Allen in the Dixieland Combo known as the Ivylanders. He said others in our class attending the Alumni College wereMrs. Harold (Marion) Henchy, Gerry andHelen Krosnick, Hank and Helen Smith and Mrs. Charles (Virginia) Tozier.

Lup White has retired after 35 years of service with Mobil. He was an assistant treasurer of the corporation and treasurer of Middle East, Planning, Supply and Transportation. He and Jean will continue to live in Chatham, N. J.

Darrow Dutcher of Rochester, N. Y., writes on his law firm letterhead: "Outside activities have been the usual - board memberships and some officer posts in Visiting Nurse Service, Planned Parenthood, local UN group, Civic Music, etc. Principal hobby is ornithology. Oldest child (Deborah) went to Smith and now is married, living in Newburyport, Mass. She has turned her hobby, viz: cabinetry into a business and has great fun running a shop. Son David finished one year at Hanover, then enlisted in the Marines. Put in a year and a quarter in Viet- nam and became interested in Japanese culture. Spent a year working and living with a family in Okinawa to learn Japanese, admitted to the University of Ryukyus on oral exams. Now is transferring to the University of Hawaii. Last child (Hope) finished her first year at the University of Pennsylvania."

Unfortunately, Ned Lord's note was received too late for the June column. He wrote: "I promised Page Worthington some time ago that I would drop you a line about our attending the Alumni Fund kick-off dinner in Washington. There were three other 33's there - Hank Smith, Manny Sprague, and Larry Reeves. Dinner was good — speakers enthusiastic. We should have no trouble making the goal if the College handles its troublemakers right. I'm doing my thing as market manager for lumber and paper for a major transportation system (C&O and B&O Railroads) keeping young with a junior daughter at Mt. Holyoke and a junior high school son who hopes to carry on the Dartmouth tradition in an all-Dartmouth family from way back."

And speaking of the Alumni Fund, WesBeattie and his class agents did a marvelous job. In spite of the very trying conditions which existed at the time of the drive, nevertheless 1933 gave more than the previous year. Thanks to all of you who contributed and a Wah-Hoo-Wah for Wes!!

News Flashes: Chet Thomson was named the Point-of-Purchase Advertising Institute's 1969 Producer-Supplier Man-of-the-Year. The award was presented during the association's twelfth annual meeting at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas.

Heag Bayles has been elected chairman of the board of Overseers of the Hanover Inn.

Charlie Jones unfortunately has run into a health problem and has been unable to work for nearly a year. He is living at 8101 Merion Avenue, Upper Darby, Pa. (We hope you'll be feeling better soon.)

Cliff Johnson of Wellesley has been elected a corporator of Lesley College Corporation in Cambridge. He is president of H. A. Johnson Co., a past director of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts and former treasurer of the New England Citizens Crime Commission.

"The Dartmouth" in the issue of September 18, 1929 carried the following news item, "Talking movie equipment has been installed in the Nugget and sound pictures will be shown throughout the year - price increased to $.35."

Thank you very much to all who have contributed news for these class notes.
