Bicentennial Events
OCTOBER 1969

This second year of observing the College's Bicentennial will reach a high point with Dartmouth Charter Day on December 13, 1969. At that time the Board of Trustees, the Alumni Council, other alumni, and the faculty will join together in Hanover for a ceremonial dinner. College will be in recess between terms and student participation therefore will not be extensive in this recognition of Dartmouth's actual 200th birthday. The Charter was granted December 13, 1769.

Another chief event of the fall term will be the meeting in Hanover of the National Academy of Sciences on October 13-15. The three academic terms this year will concentrate, successively, on the sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences. A high point of the winter term will be a poetry symposium, assembling distinguished poets on the campus for a weekend program. In the spring term, the Social Sciences Division will be host to the New England Political Science Association and will conduct two other conferences on regional and international affairs.
