Dr. Frank Ebaugh has been named the new Dean of the University of Utah College of Medicine. Frank had been Dean of the Boston U. Medical School and apparently did too good a job there. He had built up a tremendous record of accomplishment. He is internationally recognized as a clinical investigator, particularly in the field of hematology. Frank is a member of many professional organizations and continues doing work for the U.S. Public Health Service

Clark MacGregor has been elected to his fifth term in Congress and continues making a name for himself on the Judiciary Committee. He also got a nice raise a few weeks ago. Elsewhere in the government, Bill Turpin was promoted to Class II in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Since entering the foreign service in 1949, Bill has been stationed in Germany, Yugoslavia, Russia, Netherlands, and Viet Nam. He is currently assigned to the Treasury Department as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in National Security Functions. Karl Sorg who lives in nearby Arlington dropped me a nice letter after reading the February issue and told of running into a nice guy on the beach, such as we did down in Florida. Karl and his family were vacationing on Bethany Beach in Delaware and one morning, Karl was attracted by a huge crowd which consisted of a passel of beautiful bikini-clad young ladies and handsome athletic young men standing around a good-looking, if portly, gentleman. The gentleman turned out to be Eddy O'Brien '43, screen writer for some filmed MGM productions. Up the beach a way, he ran into Carol and FrankMartell who were also escaping the agonies of D. C.

Carl and Dean Allenby are active in the Washington area interviewing Dartmouth prospects from North Fairfield County. Carl will be on hand in June for sure.

My son brought home an attractive book entitled "Guns of Vicksburg." I was intrigued with the illustrations, only to find that they were done by none other than the erstwhile and versatile Charlie Geer.

I see where Lubor Capek is a director of the Dartmouth Club of Southern California.

The Annual Freshman Fathers' Weekend was held in February and again there was a good turnout of '44's. Ted Mortimer came all the way from Albuquerque (where he is chairman of the department of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico School ot Medicine) to see his son young Ted. TommyDouglas, v.p. and director of Marketing, ITE Imperial, sharing a dorm room with son, Paul, who incidentally is a member of the freshman wrestling team, but must have been nervous with Dad in the audience because he lost. Ezz Hale in from Rochester to see his boy, Kip. Ezz is secretary of the Lawyers Corporation Publishing Co. Art Allen, self-employed Amway distributor, buzzed up new route 89 from Dedham, Mass for a rendezvous with son, Arthur III And John Wheeler, a genito-urmary surgeon in Sherborn, Mass., was on hand with son, John. Dave Eckels and wife Patty did their usual gracious hosting of this '44 group and their sons at their Hanover home.

As the Feb. 13 annual dinner of the Boston Alumni Association, the Class of 44 easily walked away with the attendance cup Bill Saunders took on the assignment of getting 44 '44's out for an evening of wining and dining; and in the process of running up an astronomical telephone bill, he exceeded his goal by two. The 46 classmates on hand were: Art Kiendl, Brad King, Len Kokins, Don Lindell, Bob McLaughry, John Murphy, Karl Musser ,Al Myers, Bill Orr, Dick Ostberg, Bill Partridge, Chuck Regan, Dick Rice, Art Saul, Bill Saunders, Charlie Schumacher, Ralsey Scofield, John Weeks, John Wheeler, Fred Witzel, Jim Woods, Bud Zetterberg, Art Allen, Perry Banghart, Stan Barr, Monte Basbas, Fred Brandenburg, Whit Brown, Hap Bush, Bob Callan, Harry Carey, Dick Davis, John Denison, Jim Donnelly, Jack Downs, Frank Ebaugh, Dave Eckels, Rog Feldman, Bill Foye, Jack Haffenreffer, Fritz Hier, Snook Hughes, Del Jackson, Ben Jones, Dick Jones, and Fred Kennedy.

I was sorry to learn that Wiley Hitchcock's dad passed on recently. He was a great guy and a very loyal Dartmouth man. In the obituary, I learned for the first time that Wiley is now Dr. Hitchcock and living in New Yo£k City.

George Troxell is now making his home in New Orleans. Gus Pratt has gone to the other extreme and is up in Hallowell, Me. Dr. George McEIfatrick is in Baltimore.

I'm sure you all appreciate how lucky the Class of '44 is to have its 25th Reunion this year as opposed to any year in the past. Normally, a 25-year class makes a "Class Gift." Now with the Third Century Fund in progress, we can kill two birds with one stone. The gift we make to the Fund also applies to our Class Gift. But for heaven's sake, be sure to get yours in before June so it will count.

Bob McLaughry (l), president, lets classmates Bill Saunders and Perry Banghartshare the attendance cup won by theClass of 1944 with 46 members presentat the Boston Dinner on February 13.
