Willie Arcl's glandular gum-shoe, Timothy Dane, should have little difficulty filling the Keds vacated by the roguish Mickey Spillane. On a recent trip down South, I followed Timothy through an orgy of wine, women, and slaughter in The Diary .. . and en route home, picked him up again in The PerfectFrame, a title more applicable to the hero's feminine taste than to his disastrous predicament. Grand reading, though .. . what with the peculiar activities of the lady characters and Willie's superb ease of turning a trick phrase.
He didn't use any of you guys as character references, but did assign one especially tough hoodlum with the handle of "Bull" Hinman (after the same of '45 fame).
Pinky Corroon attended a recent cocktail party tendered Willie by his publisher, and reported that after a small pailful of Vat 69 he almost penned the modern GWTW rightthen and there.
While on the above mentioned swingthrough Dixie, I ran into Gus and Chub Prattat the Floridan Hotel in Tampa... bothlooking wonderful. Their home is just 20miles south of Miami but lest you thinkthat our class dues are supporting a tropicalplayground for the Treasurer, I might addthat Gus is working for a living ... as sales director for the Par-Ken Cos., frozen fruit juices... and in the six months that they've livedthere, they have found time to hit the beachonly twicel One could do better than that atthe Hoboken YMCA.
Had a nice letter from the Boston Barrister,Jack Murphy. He writes in part:
". . . Dr. Charlie Regan and his lovely wife Pat . . . whom he met in the Orient and who is a real beauty from metropolitan San Francisco . . . are the proud parents (one year this April) of a daughter Joan who has crimson cheeks and the happiest disposition this side of Hanover. Charlie is a resident at the Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary, jolly as ever.
"Frank Parker and wife Barbara have two beautiful daughters, Cynthia and Charlotte . . . and are removing themselves in April from the old and hallowed Commonwealth of Massachusetts to Nashua, N. H. Frank, incidentally, is the youngest Asst. Dist. Sales Manager ever appointed by the ancient Schlitz Brewing Cos. of Milwaukee.
"Ed Fitzgerald and his lovely wife Anne are now living in Albany after a stint in Ohio where Ed's work took him. (Ed. note: Jack stood up for Ed at his wedding.)
"Ren and Lavina Smith are having a marvelous time in Morocco, plenty of household help, etc. Vivi is a wonderful girl . . . and they have two swell children; I've been fortunate enough to see Sandy, the oldest, who was born on VJ Day, while I was visiting with Ren's parents in N. Y.
"I meet Jim Donnelly quite frequently in the Boston courts, we both being engaged principally in trial work. He just moved his practice to "Worcester last week. (Ed. note: Jim is now associated with the law firm of Ceaty, Ceaty, and McCarthy.)
"Incidentally, speaking about adversaries, one of my opponents in Suffolk County Superior Court last week was also named John Joseph Murphy ... he was still indignant over having been woken in the wee hours of the morning during the last Harvard-Dartmouth game by some well oiled member of the Dartmouth class of '44."
Whoever it was that missed Jack that night, can make amends and try the J.J.M. at 24 Church St. next time.
Out in San Francisco ... it was a son, JohnBradley Long, on March 9 for the doctor and his good wife. Congratulations!
As I was typing this, Bud and Helen Welch and daughters, Debbie and Kathleen stopped by. Helen and friend spouse decided it was a grand day to go antiquing and that the children would be left in competent hands with us ... which of course they were .. . but as it will happen, when the ladies returned we were too engrossed in the finale of a Gin game to notice that Debbie was working through a bottle of Miller's High Life and that Kat had crawled into the kitchen and was eating the cat's food. Kinda makes one feel like Howard McGrath.
Bud is enjoying his association with the J. M. Berry Cos. (phone book adv. agency) immensely ... and has nothing but the finest to say for the competent management... which, as you might know, is now under the direction of John Berry. That is a multi-million dollar operation, and John has been bringing it up constantly.

McCoy Cos. of Worcester in the Providence area.... Win Turner has just taken a post with the Navy Department in Washington as an attorney in the Office of Counsel, Bureau of Ordinance ... the good Rebel doctor EarlOwen is now at the Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital in Clifton Forge, Va.. .. Andy McDowell is in the sales department of Eastman Kodak Cos. in Rochester.... Ed Crawford Hills just got a new house in Cleveland; the street number he put down on his address is 20,000, which sounds like an awful long; alley ... or might infer his preoccupation with the mortgage .... Dr. Monte Duval is practicing in Ridgewood, N. J. ... Paul Staples is down in Wayne, Pa., working for the York Corp. in Philly
Did you catch George Colton's introduction to the guest editor of the March 24 issue of the Bulletin? .If not... "In this Bulletin we bring you some comments on the extracurricular aspects of Dartmouth life from a man who probably has a better chance than anyone else to see and evaluate what is being done in this very important segment of College affairs. He is Art Kiendl '44, Asst. Dean of the College, whose responsibilities embrace not only the more traditional functions of the Dean's office but also the encouragement and guidance of a vast array of student organizations through which he sees at first hand the efforts made by the undergraduates to govern themselves and promote the welfare of the College." It was one of the best reports from the College I have read.
From the Armed services: Lt. Jack Adams USNR will wind up a year of recall duty this month.. .. Lt. Merle Hagen is down in Norman, 0k1a.... Lt. Francis Dougherty is down in Charleston, S. C.... and Lt. Bob Gifjord is moving too fast to peg him down to a given spot....
Haven't heard of any weddings in recent weeks, but am pleased to report that HerbWolff and Mary Davies of White Plains have settled on June as a good month in which to follow the footsteps of L'il Abner and his Ideel. Herb is with the law office of Greenbaum, Wolff, and Ernst in New York City.
Rudolf Witten and Marion Nelson, of Maplewood, N. J., have expressed the intention but not the date as yet. Rudy is with the Lederle Laboratories Division of American Cyanamid in Pearl River.
The following lads got back to Hanover in recent weeks: Burgess Griffin, Dick Allenby (and family), Estes Kefauver, John Denison (and wife), and ... of course, Art Saul.
