Remember those popular independent reading exams of a few years ago? The class column this month reads about the same. Lots of blue book to fill, but not much information. With the deadline only two days off I have received only one item to report. A little help next month, fellows?

Well, on to our one worthy news item. John Walkup sent a very nice letter from my old home grounds of California. John is happy to announce, a year later, his marriage to the former Patricia Ann Hagbom of Palo Alto, Calif. Pat graduated from Wheaton College, and she and John met while attending graduate school at Stanford. While Pat is busy teaching high school home economics and math, John is pushing on to-ward his Ph.D. in electrical _ engineering. They are pleased with California living, but says John, "there truly is no place like Hanover." He won't be able to make the reunion in June, but is certain that "a rousing time will be had by all."

There are many other Dartmouth friends and classmates on the Stanford campus. John passes on word of Steve Lasch. In case you were worried, good old "Lightening" is still single. (I wonder if he still speaks to Gordi Williamson.) Steve is also nearing his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Stanford.

Last month I mentioned that ChuckPreuss was in Viet Nam. My family wrote from California that Chuck stopped in to visit them in March. He is due to be discharged from the Marines in June, and then plans to go on to law school. May the rest of those involved in that conflict return home just as safely and just as quickly.

Mike Stephen is now a U.S. Foreign Serv- ice Officer. He was sworn in last month along with 38 others who successfully completed the competitive written and oral examinations. By the time this is printed Mike will know whether he has drawn a Washington, D. C., assignment to start off, or a post in one of the 113 countries with which the U.S. maintains diplomatic relations. Mike and Mary, both graduates of the same high school in Dayton, have two youngsters — and a brand new career ahead.

Tom Laris is back in the news this month. Tom finished third in the three-mile race at the A.A.U. Championship meet in Albuquerque, N. M.

Since that is the extent of the incoming news this month, and since the Secretary's Office reminds me this is the last opportunity for reunion publicity, the remainder of this abbreviated column will be a pitch for Dick Hofmann and his committee.

Personally I just can't wait for my (newto-Hanover) wife Sue to have the chance to spend two wonderful evenings in glamorous Fayerweather Row. Dick is so right when he says in his reunion newsletter that "no one ought to pass up an opportunity like this." So far I've been able to convince Sue that the Inn is Fayerweather Row. Although the reunion letter didn't mention it, room service just possibly may be available from Thayer Hall. How about that for a dynamic duo? Seriously, it is doubtful that even that combination can be topped as it is a part of the Hanover and Dartmouth that brings to us that special feeling. Here's hoping that each of us can be in Hanover on June 17, 18, and 19 to renew the friendships and ties that along with the college constitute our Dartmouth experience.

Since I'm plugging class participation, maybe you fellows can burden our friendly emmett postman next month with some news. Since learning is our business, we're anxious to learn what you've been up to. Let's make the next column a bit longer.
