Jack Hubbard '29 Honored as Class Treasurer of the Year

Honored as Class Treasurer of the Year at the annual meeting of class officers in Hanover on May 3 was John C. Hubbard '29. The citation accompanying the aware read:

Your classmates know you as "Jack" as distinguished from "Johnny," the other John Hubbard in the Class of 1929. During the past four years you have given them reason to know you also as Jack, the expert dues collector and on-the-ball manager of class finances. After your start as class treasurer four years ago, you raised class dues to $10 without any drop in your percentage of dues payers, and you also increased class coverage under the group subscription plan of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE to 100%, at which level 1929 continues today.

With the funds you have helped to raise, the Class of 1929, rallying around its eminent member, John Sloan Dickey, has undertaken varied projects to benefit the College, the latest of which will make its bow in June when the Bicentennial Flag (and thereafter the Dartmouth Flag) will fly from the Class of 1929 flagpole on the campus.

Your financial know-how is grounded in years of experience in corporate and real estate financing with the New York firm of Hubbard, Westervelt & Mottelay, of which you were president and now are chairman and treasurer. And the art of collecting money has been polished by you as president and campaign chairman of the Community Chest and as fundraiser for other charities.

Your love of Dartmouth over the years was reinforced by a Dartmouth father, George Morrison Hubbard '02, a Dartmouth brother, George Morrison Hubbard Jr. '32, and a Dartmouth son, John Clark Hubbard Jr. '62. We must guard against going off in numerous directions in paying tribute to you and must come back to the main point, which is your service as 1929 class treasurer. In that office you have performed so conscientiously and so well that we have a clear call to honor you as Dartmouth Class Treasurer of the Year.
