Three victories in ten games is not a winning record but for Dartmouth's lacrosse team the surprising 9-6 upset of heavily favored Harvard on Chase Field "made" the season.

Harvard, which had toppled powerful Cornell early in the season, was completely caught by surprise as the Indians cut loose a strong third-period attack and then played stern defense through the final 15 minutes to produce their first Ivy League victory since they beat Harvard by an identical score in 1966.

The trigger in Coach Whitey Burnham's attack has been sophomore Mike Diaz and senior Don DeVries, a pair of attackmen who are in line for All-Ivy recognition. Diaz leads the team with 18 goals and eight assists (with two games remaining) while DeVries has ten goals and three assists. This pair teamed with junior midfielder Carl Andros to spell trouble for Harvard as Andros came through with three goals.

The offense, despite this trio, has been sporadic and more often than not the load has been thrust upon defensemen Jeff Norton, Trip Dorkey, and Pete Zacchilli along with goalie Pete Harter. This quartet has absorbed the brunt of the best attacks in Eastern lacrosse this spring and deserves much of the credit in the team's success.

Sophomore golfer Marsh Gavre (l) looksahead with Coach. Bill Johnson to his entry in the NCAA tournament this month.
