Wilbur Bull '09 Named Newsletter Editor of the Year
JUNE 1969

Wilbur I. Bull '09 was cited as Class Newsletter Editor of the Year when class officers met on May 3 in Hanover. The following tribute accomcompanied the award:

"Bully" is a logically derived, but wholly unsuitable, nickname for a kind and beloved country parson who prepared particularly for the rural minister because, as you said, "It would be most worth-while to go into the country and, through the church, help the lonely desertlike stretches of life to rejoice and blossom as the rose." For many years you continued to serve faithfully in small Maine communities and even after you came to New Hampshire to lead the life of a country squire you could not resist the urge to rebuild and preach in an 1841 church in Hanover Center. You are the man who couldn't Bully you.

Since 1965 the issues of the 1909 DARTMOUTH DIDDINGS have been all "Bull, not formal church documents, not exaggerations and nonsense intended to bulldoze your classmates, but bulletins which synoptically and sympathetically synthesize with sensitive perception and subtle humor the significant substances of the shifting scene in Hanover. Your skillful summaries, ranging in scope from soccer to sit-ins, from symposia on The New Politics to personal colloquies with participating colleens during Coed Week, constantly draw the complimentary comments of your classmates.

You have been uncommonly successful in generating many long and warm letters from classmates and your promotion of 1909 s glorious Sixtieth in Sixty-nine should bring a recordbreaking number of classmates back to Hanover this June. .

The postman's creed is a recital of tame vicissitudes overcome. While spending the better part of last summer in Mary Hitchcock recovering from a heart attack, you still managed to turn out two issues of THE DIDDINGS from your hospital bed.

Bully, it is our honor, in recognition and appreciation of your extraordinary accomplishments, to designate you Class Newsletter Editor of the Year.
