With the nation waking up to the severity of the energy crisis and with President Carter calling for citizens to make voluntary sacrifices in their standard of living, it seems worth noting that Dartmouth professors and students, however unwittingly, are also part of the conservation effort. A friend in the History Department tells us that the lights in some of the classrooms in Reed Hall have been equipped with automatic timers in order to save energy. The only problem is that while the time cycle runs to a maximum of 60 minutes, lectures frequently run on longer. Just as the professor gets to the punch line the lights go out, leaving students in the dark.
