A new year has come. It offers an opportunity for resolutions, reflections, and rebirth. It should therefore be a joyous time. However, these are frustrating and unhappy times. Frustrating and unhappy because the constitutional rights of free speech, assembly and press are questioned and made light of by the highest elected officials in the country. Frustrating and unhappy because a man's fate is determined not by his own free will but by a lottery. And frustrating and unhappy because a war that has claimed 40,000 American lives and and maimed tens of thousands more for life continues over the methodically ignored protests of millions of Americans.

The new year has come. Let us hope and pray that it brings all of us a better life than its predecessor. Then perhaps we can leave our sons and daughters a better world in which to live.

Last summer witnessed two new additions to the '67 family. The Dave McMahill's welcomed a son, Daniel Rea, born June 29; and the Stu Spitz's became the parents of Benjamin J. (Class of 1990) born August 19.

Several marriage announcements have belatedly trickled in. Dave Mangelsdorff married the former Sally Ann Dunlap in Broomfield, Essex, England, in the middle of last August.

Tony Blecher and the former Carol Joan Weinberg (Goucher '70) also tied the knot last August. This fall, Tony returned to the academic world - Columbia Business School - after a two-year hitch as a lieutenant with the Army and Carol completes her senior year as a visiting student at Barnard.

September 5 was Bob and Karen Webster's wedding day. Marshall Levine helped usher the guests. Bob has also gone back to school - Syracuse Law School - after working for two years as a reporter for the Stamford Advocate.

In another August wedding, JonathanGill married the former Johanna Branson (Wellesley '69). Dave Stromeyer '68 served as the best man. While Johanna attends Brown as an Art History graduate student, Jonathan continues his training in educational TV at Channel WGBH in Boston.

After meeting in Thailand while serving as Peace Corps volunteers, Dick Lyczak and Ann Hauke (U. of Detroit) were married this past summer in Rome. The couple has taken up residence in Hanover while Dick works toward his Ph.D. in psychology in the newly founded graduate department at the College.

Another Peace Corps couple, Brian Ford and Mary Tracy became man and wife in early September after they served for two years in Senegal, West Africa.

Will Lenz recently wrote that he is finishing up work for his M.S. in analytical chemistry at Wayne State University in Detroit. Will also mentioned that he was an usher at Cory and Marsha Wansbury's wedding. After a honeymoon spent rafting down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, the couple returned to California where Cory is in his third year at USC Medical School. Another usher at the wedding was Kyp Harris, who is currently a graduate student at the University of Chicago.

Still another son of '67 was born this past year - Bradley Michael born February 17 to Al and Joni Greenberg. Al is in his last year at Villanova Law School.

After a summer at Stanford studying political science, Tom Peebles returned to Grosse Pointe, Mich., where he teaches at Liggett - a local girls' school.

The Pete Nistads are living in Troy, Mich., while Pete works for Dow-Corning in Detroit.

Secondary school teaching in NYC is taking up most of Tom Thompson's time but he has had enough spare moments to finish his M.A. at Columbia.

Terry Foss has been in San Francisco for a year working on housing problems under the auspices of the Youth Service Opportunity Program of the American Friends Service Committee. He has found the experience to be quite frustrating as the housing shortage is acute in S.F. and federal money for new construction is tight.

After a year in Vietnam, Capt. TomWilson has been assigned as the billeting officer of the Military Traffic Management and Terminal Service, Oakland, Calif. - a joint service organization controlling the movement of all military freight and cargo as well as Army passengers in 14 western states.

Upon completion of OTS at Lackland AFB in Texas in September, Al Hine was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He has since been transferred to McConnell AFB in Kansas.

Jeff Milne received his M.A. from Rutgers last June.

A July '70 wedding is being planned by Marty Gale and Lynn Rocker (OSU '70). Marty, who completed his M.B.A. at the University of Chicago last June, is now serving an active tour of duty in the Army Reserves at Ft. Lewis, Seattle, Wash.

Lieut. Phil Davey married the former Charlie Wilbourne (Old Dominion College '68) last July and is now in Danang, South Vietnam, acting as a Naval Operations Control Center Watch Officer.

Bob Span entered active duty with the Army Reserves at Ft. Knox in December. Doug Darby will take Bob's place as the Class Newsletter Editor.
