Perhaps the most popular summer activity for '67's is marriage. This past summer has been no exception as the number of eligible bachelors in the class continues to dwindle.
Craig Jackson married the former Mary Lou Ball (Plymouth State College) in Conway, N. H., last spring. Frank Ota served as the best man. Craig is currently in the Navy.
Wedding bells also rang for Ben Mixter and Anne Kingwill (Bates College).
The University of Virginia chapel was the scene of Harlow and Eva Chandler's wedding. Both the bride and groom received their master's degrees in 1968 from the U. of Virginia.
Late spring also witnessed the marriage of John Talbott and the former Suzanne Love (Smith). John is presently a lieutenant in the Army stationed at Fort McClellan, Ala., and Suzanne is associated with Praeger Publications in NYC.
Also joining the summer marriage brigade were Dave Frechette and the former Jane Thurston (Wells '68). John Murphy helped usher the guests. Jane is currently a high school teacher and Dave a student at Dartmouth Med.
Jim Scharback and Mertina Stevens (Mary Hitch) were married in Maine last July. The couple will reside in New York as Jim pursues his medical education (begun at Dartmouth Med) at Mt. Sinai Medical School.
In June, Rick Alpert took time out from a joint doctorate program in medicine and law to marry Donna Arsenault (UMass).
Malcolm Youngquist and Susan Lauf (Middlebury '68) also exchanged vows this past summer. Since graduation from Tuck, Malcolm has been employed at the New England Merchants National Bank in Boston.
Still more marriages. ...
Early in the summer, Bill Eggeling took Leslie Tarbox (Mt. Holyoke) as his bride - Dan Sullivan served as the best man. The Eggelings will live in Newport, R. I., while Bill finishes up his stint with the Naval Reserve.
Ray Collins is back in Hanover finishing up after taking off three years for the Army. He is accompanied by his recent bride, the former Ina Bogart (U. of New Mexico).
After receiving an M.B.A. from Columbia last February, John Steinle took off for the sunny Caribbean as a trainee in the Rockresorts hotel management program. During the next two years he will rotate through the Dorado Beach Hotel in Dorado, Puerto Rico; Little Dix Bay on the island of British Virgin Gorden; and Caneel Bay Plantation, St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. He will be at Dorado Beach until 1971 and extends a welcome to '67's to call or stop by.
Hay den Young writes that he is a Private First Class serving with the field artillery of the 101st Airborne Division at Berthes Garden, five miles from "Hamburger Hill" in Vietnam.
Posthumously, Duncan Sleigh has been awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism as a platoon commander in the Seventh Marines. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Sleigh '25, were presented the medal in ceremonies aboard the "U.S.S. Constitution" on July 19, 1969.
As a result of successful completion of written and oral examinations, John Isaacs has been named a Foreign Service Officer of the United States. He was sworn in at ceremonies in Washington, D. C. He will soon be assigned to a position with an embassy or consulate in one of the 113 countries with which the U.S. maintains diplomatic relations or with the State Department in Washington. Prior to becoming a Foreign Service Officer, John received his M.A. from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
Owen Leach has been promoted to executive producer of Milwaukee radio station WIND.
Wesleyan University recently conferred the degree of Master of Arts in astronomy on Eric Kintner.
After finishing his studies in England as a Rhodes Scholar, Harris Wagenseil returned to the U.S. and has entered Harvard Law School.
Steve Schwartz has been elected vice-president of the Student Association at Yale Law and is active in the Barristers' Union.
