The biggest news with respect to Dartmouth recently, which will probably be old hat by the time you read this column, was President Dickey's decision to retire during the 1969-70 bicentennial year.

As you know, Dickey has been the College's President for almost 25 years - years of innovation, expansion, and change. Dartmouth owes a lot to this man, his ideas, his ideals. It will be a difficult task to replace him.

To get down to the more mundane details of life, it seems that the wedding bells never stop ringing. . . .

Dwight Mackerron and Sally Worthen (Colby Jr.) were married in June. Dartmouth '67 was well represented at this affair by best man Roger Morin, and ushers Al Chidester, David O'Connor, Ed Palmer, and Bob Ramont. Dwight and Sally are living in the Boston area where she attends the Boston University School of Education, while he studies for his master's at Breadloaf College of Middlebury College.

June was also the month in which JohnWasson married Elizabeth Funston (Wells College '68). This fall John is continuing his studies at the University of Virginia Medical School. Present at the event were DaveFrechette as best man and Jon Roll and John (Rusty) Hoverman as ushers.

Here's one from last April - excuse the delay in reporting. On April 27, Dave Houston took as his bride Jane Perrine (Wheaton '68). Dave is an ensign in the Navy serving aboard the Newport, R. I.-based destroyer "Charles P. Cecil."

Nick Mason and Dorinne Lee (Conn. College '68) were married this past June. Dorinne is working for AT&T while Nick pursues his studies at Columbia University Graduate School of Business Administration.

While we are on the topic of New York City, my sources inform me that DarmenWing is in "Fun City" as a first year student at New York University Law School. Darmen received his M.B.A. from the Tuck School this past June.

Dave Traber and his wife Jane spent the summer in Jeffersonville, Vt„ where Dave served as summer pastor at the Second Con gregational Church of Jeffersonville.

Since entering the Army after graduation, James Wilson has been promoted to first lieutenant. He is in Germany serving as an intelligence officer of the Second Squadron in the Fourth Armored Division's Fourth Cavalry.

The Air Force sends us tidings of Al Lafferty. After completing technical school at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi where he was trained as an air traffic controller he has been assigned to a unit' of the Air Force Communication Service at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Michigan.

In June, Mary Nassikas (Mary Hitch Nursing) became the bride of Robert Hall. Bob graduated from the Thayer School and is now serving as an ensign in the Navy at the Nuclear Power School in California. Sixty-seven was represented by SteveSchwartz who was an usher.

I received a note from "Abe" B. L. Winslow '20, with a clipping from the Orinda, Calif., newspaper announcing the marriage of Bob Buck to Corrine Curtola. Mr. Winslow is a Secretary Emeritus and I guess he appreciates a secretary's news-finding problems . I would like to hear from everyone, especially '67's.

Andy Longacre received his M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester in June. He is now working toward his doctorate under a National Science Foundation traineeship grant.

The U.S. Army tells us that Charlie Farnum has graduated from the Army Engineer Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and is now a second lieutenant in the Transportation Corps. Having completed the 23-week O.C.S. course curriculum that includes training in mechanical and technical equipment, topography, and military science and engineering, he is now continuing his training at the Army Transportation School at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

This past summer Bill Sjogren was honored for his many achievements by his hometown of Swampscott, Mass., at which time the selectmen presented him with the key to the town. Bill is currently teaching at Winchendon Academy.

The Wellesley College Chapel was the setting for the wedding ceremony of Herbert (Buzz) Waterhouse and Frances Lloyd. Buzz is currently teaching at Cambridge Academy while his wife completes her studies at Wellesley.

Also tying the knot this past summer were Michael Bledsoe and Linda Morse (Middlebury '67). John Hodgson and BillMcSwain were ushers for the couple. Mike spent last year doing graduate work at the University of California, Department of Urban Planning at Berkeley.

Ensign Ric Grefe is temporarily assigned to Rear Admiral Sam B. Moore's cruiserdestroyer staff in the Seventh Fleet off the Vietnam Coast. Ric's usual assignment is with the staff intelligence section in the Philippines. On Admiral Moore's staff, Ric says he is ". .. the special security officer. I handle the highly classified material for the staff."

That is all for this month. Hope to see some of you in Hanover and elsewhere before too long.
