Dartmouth College and Wellesley College have jointly announced that they are exploring opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions, including student and faculty exchanges and academic planning.
Discussions initiated by President Ruth Adams of Wellesley and President John Kemeny of Dartmouth now involve a number of faculty members and administrative officers in the consideration of relationships that could strengthen the educational program of each college. Specifically, they are exploring an exchange of up to 200 students and five or more faculty members, plus cooperation in academic planning.
If adopted, the student exchange would be an integral part of the educational program of each institution, even if either or both should become coeducational. Dartmouth and Wellesley are both currently members of the 12-College Exchange Program, under which men and women students of the member colleges may live and study on any of the twelve campuses for a semester or a year. The Dartmouth-Wellesley partnership would not alter the partici- pation of the two colleges in this ex- change program.
It has been emphasized that explora- tory discussions will continue for some time before any final decision is made.
