The Faculty Committee on Organization and Planning has named Jere R. Daniell II '55, Associate Professor of History, to be chairman of the Committee on Equal Opportunity (CEO), succeeding President Kemeny, who resigned his chairmanship following his appointment to the presidency. This committee was established in 1968 to advise on the implementation of Dartmouth's commitment to equality of opportunity for students from disadvantaged minorities. Its membership includes faculty, students, administrators, and representatives from the community.

A specialist on the colonial and Revolutionary War periods in American history, Professor Daniell earned his graduate degrees at Harvard and has been a member of the faculty since 1964. Besides serving on CEO, he is also a member of the Committee on Black Studies.

Among the most important matters facing CEO, according to Chairman Daniell, will be the new program President Kemeny has announced to increase significantly the enrollment of Indians and disadvantaged white students from northern New England. Part of this program is a tutorial seminar to help disadvantaged students adjust to the academic rigors of Dartmouth.

It was also announced that Charles R. Johnson '71 of New York City and Cleveland Webber, special student from Chicago, were selected to fill two student vacancies on the committee.
