The Convocation in Webster Hall on the evening of September 23, formally opening Dartmouth's 202 nd academic year, served a double purpose this year. It also marked the beginning of a three-day observance of the Centennial of the Thayer School of Engineering, which enrolled its first class in September 1871.
President Kemeny gave the traditional Convocation Address, and Dean Carroll W. Brewster also spoke briefly; but in recognition of Thayer School's special birthday, the program was expanded to include addresses by Dean David V. Ragone of Thayer School and Robert C. Tsigonis '72 of Valhalla, N. Y., a Thayer student.
The return of Convocation to Webster Hall, where it was held for many years before its transference to Leverone Field House, was welcomed by Hanover traditionalists, who were happy to see a full house once more in the stately building at the northeast corner of the campus.
