Connie and Katherine Snow celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 26, 1971 with a deluge congratulatory cards from their many well-wishers. The announcement of this event contained a charming colored snapshot of the happy pair. Jim and Carola Steen have moved to Sun City, Ariz., not far from Dutch and Edith Waterbury. We believe the Steens plan to live out the summers there with the aid of their air-conditioning, From personal experience, we know they'll need the latter as it sure gets hot out there. As we write this, we are looking forward to the coming weekend in Hanover to see what the Big Green can do with Yale. It is a real pleasure to learn that Boss Geller will join us as a good Yale friend of his is being his chauffeur. At 83 Boss doesn't miss a trick. No word from Eddie Luitwieler in a long time but we learn from Syd Clark that Eddie now has a nephew among the Dartmouth alumni on Cape Cod Dutch Waterbury writes that the widow of Eric Kelly, formerly Professor of Journalism at Dartmouth, has a cottage in Youngtown next to Sun City. She also is a summer resident of Chebeague Island, Me., not far from the Welds.
Also on the go recently were Sam and Marian Hobbs with a trip to Alaska including Mt. McKinley, to British Columbia and Seattle.
From South Africa comes word from Bishop Brown of his ordeal in the hospital there from "a dry run of pleurisy." He says that what is going on in Africa is "exciting stimulating and so full of human interest No part of this world can resist, for long, the on-rushing tide of peoples struggling to know why we are here and trying 10 understand the shape of things to come."
As noted in our last column, Cliff Sugatt died in his sleep at his home in Rhinebeck. N. Y., on August 14, 1971. He was still active on the golf links at the time and, as his daughter wrote, "would have danced ; jig if he knew it was going to happen the way it did." He was making a fine adjustment following the death of his wife last February.
Edna Cutting sends her sincere appreciation for the Memorial Book placed in Baker Library. She writes, "As you all know, Dartmouth and the Class of '12 were a great highlight in Earl's life and he held sincere affection for each one." It is gratifying to learn that Edna is planning on our 60th next June.
May the Christmas season bring you cheer and the New Year give you courage for each day's duties.
