Editorial Board Meets
DECEMBER 1983

The newly-formed Editorial Board of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE met twice during the fall, once in New York City and once in Hanover. Trustee Ann Fritz Hackett '76 presided over the initial meeting in the Big Apple at which Dero Saunders '35, no stranger to the world of publishing, was elected Chairman. At that meeting, the Board set the agenda for the Hanover meeting and nominated several committees to consider various aspects of the Magazine's operation. President McLaughlin addressed the Board at the November meeting in Hanover, noting that the relationship of the Board to the Magazine was, in his eyes, a very healthy development for Dartmouth. He said that he felt the Board could be especially helpful in assisting on important policy questions.

While there were a number of issues on the docket for its inaugural meeting, the Board spent the bulk of its time hammering out a set of guidelines which will be submitted to the Trustees for their approval at their February meeting. As Chairman Saunders pointed out, the guidelines are designed to assist the Editor and his staff in carrying out the task of publishing a lively, informative, and responsible periodical for the alumni of the College. The full membership of the Editorial Board is listed on the masthead [see p. 6 of this issue].
