ADMISSIONS and financial aid at Dartmouth will be studied by a special twenty-man committee, under the aegis of the Trustees Planning Committee, it was announced last month by Harvey P. Hood '18, chairman of TPC. This becomes another in the series of studies that have been completed or are being carried forward in the all-embracing TPC survey aimed at bringing the College up to a new level of excellence by the time of its bicentennial in 1969.
In expectation that the number of applicants for college will double in the next decade, the new subcommittee is charged with studying all phases of current admissions and financial aid policies and making recommendations that will help Dartmouth to meet this challenge.
The Subcommittee on Admissions and Financial Aid is headed by Dr. Hadley Cantril '28, former chairman of the psychology department at Princeton and currently board chairman of the Institute for International Social Research.
In discussing the committee's broad goals, Dr. Cantril said, "I hope our study will not only formulate important guideposts for the future admission and financial aid programs at Dartmouth, so as to bring to our campus the strongest undergraduate enrollment possible, but that certain general elements of our final report may also be useful to other private, liberal arts institutions similarly faced with the formidable challenge and responsibilty of selecting future college generations in a humane yet systematic manner which will add to the betterment of our entire society."
