The outdoor track and field season to this point has been limited to a most successful training experience in Florida (where Bill Dinneen had the top performance with a victory in the hammer throw at the Florida Relays in Gainesville) and in the annual Boston College Relays where the Indians were second to Northeastern in the team scoring.
"Dinneen can be a contender for the national championship this spring," said Coach Ken Weinbel following the Florida training period. "He needs plenty of competition and could come into his own."
Dinneen, from Washington, D.C., was exceptional in the indoor season with the 35-pound weight. Last spring he placed fifth in the NCAA hammer championship. One of the men ahead of him a year ago was teammate DeWitt Davies, now graduated.
Other leading performers for the Indians this spring are Bob Brown (13th in the NCAA decathlon last year) and high jumper Tom Byron, who also will compete in the decathlon with Brown and shotputter Ted Moody.
