At the annual awards program of the Dartmouth Club Officers Association November 10 in Hanover, Ira LeonardBerman '42 of the Greater Boston Alumni Association was named Club President of the Year. Although he was unable to be present, those in attendance heard the following citation:
FLY, don't run to the next project!
That maxim has expressed your guiding principle since becoming active in the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Greater Boston, particularly during your year as President, when club participation increased over eighty percent with dues payers up from 467 to over 850. Although you literally and figuratively flew from project to project, you had to do a lot of groundwork and, in the process, wore out much Berman-made sole leather. You have been the very soul of service and the College and the Association are extremely grateful.
You are not in Hanover tonight because long before the date was set for this Club Officers Weekend you had arranged for about one hundred members of the Boston Association and other alumni to fly to France to visit the Dartmouth Foreign Studies Program in Bourges and for an historic dinner-meeting in Paris with the Dartmouth Club there. This meeting was concluded about two hours ago and all hope you had a great time. For arranging this and previous European tours and for the London trip scheduled for next May, many Dartmouth men roaming " 'round the girdled earth" are grateful to you, the Vice President in Charge of Foreign Travel.
Under your leadership more than $1700 has been raised for the Association Scholarship Fund, a Club Newsletter was initiated, a strong Job Placement Committee formed, and the network of suburban clubs has been strengthened. The Boston Association has been reborn.
It is an honor to name you the Dartmouth Club President of the Year.
