In addition to payments on Third Century Fund pledges of $234,805, the following gifts of $5,000 or more were received by the College over and above the Alumni Fund in the quarter ending September 30. Gifts of under $5,000 totaled $175,782 during this period. The purpose of this column is to recognize these generous gifts and to indicate the ways in which support for the College can be expressed.

Bequests

Estate of JOHN H. WATSON JR. 1904: $1,685,667 to establish a fund in his name, unrestricted.

Estate of CHARLES W. BIDDLE 1919: $5,000 to establish a fund in his name in support of the Alumni Fund.

Estate of MARGARET R. ISBELL, widow of Charles W. Isbell 1918: $74,233 addition to a scholarship fund in his name, bringing the total to $217,333.13.

Estate of LOUISE ROLLINS TYLER, widow of Richard K. Tyler 1890: $31,514 addition to the Richard K. 1890 and Louise R. Tyler Fund for general purposes, bringing the total to $72,044.

Gifts from Alumni & Friends

CHARLES H. JONES 1923: $l8,000 to establish a fund in his name in support of the Alumni Fund.

FRED W. WEBSTER 1925: $9,412 addition to the Craven Laycock 1896 Memorial Fund for general purposes.

MRS. RUTH D. MATHES, widow 1911: $5,562 addition to the James Monroe Mathes 1911 and James Monroe Mathes Jr. 1939 Memorial Scholarship Fund.

MRS. JACOB BALGLEY, mother of Robert P. Balgley 1934:. $12,987 addition to the Balgley Family Scholarship Fund.

ANONYMOUS ALUMNUS: $12,000 in support of Project FIND, a computerized planning model of the College.

Gifts Subject to Life Income

WILLIAM H. PEARSE 1911: $l0,000 to establish the William H. 1911 and Beatrice B. Pearse Fund for the support of the William Jewett Tucker Foundation.

SHERMAN T. BAKETEL 1928: $11,050 addition to the Roy V. Baketel (1899 Medical) Memorial for the; general purposes of the Dartmouth Medical School.

Grants from Corporations

GENERAL ELECTRIC FOUNDATION: $5,000 to the Tuck School in support of a study of government-business relations.

GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION: $5,910 to the Tuck School for scholarships and $l,000 for research.

MCCARTHY-HICKS FOUNDATION: $8,000 for scholarships.

PHELPS DODGE CORPORATION: $l0,000 for support of the Earth Sciences and Engineering Sciences Departments.

GENERAL TELEPHONE & ELECTRONICS FOUNDATION: $6,160 to Thayer School for scholarships.

Grants from Foundations

Louis CALDER FOUNDATION: $20,000 for current use in support of the Dartmouth Medical School.

Louis BOEHM FOUNDATION: $5,000 for support of the ABC Program.

EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION OF AMERICA: $5,000 for the support of Native Americans, $12,500 for the support of the Native American Studies Program.

THE FAIRCHILD FOUNDATION, INC.: $600,000 toward a pledge of $3 million for the Sherman Fairchild Physical Sciences Center.

THE ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON FOUNDATION: $37,150 to the Dartmouth Medical School for student aid.

MURIEL & FELIX LILIENTHAL, FOUNDATION: $5,000 addition to the Muriel & Felix Lilienthal Foundation (1941) Fund for purposes to be designated later.

AGNES M. LINDSAY TRUST: $8,000 for undergraduate scholarships for students from rural areas of New England, $8,000 to the Dartmouth Medical School for scholarships for students from rural New England.

HENRY LUCE FOUNDATION, INC.: $45,000 in support of the Henry R. Luce Professorship in Environmental Studies and Policy.

ROCKEFELLER BROTHERS FUND: $l00,000 in support of Project FIND, a computerized planning model of the College.

THE SHUBERT FOUNDATION, INC.: $5,000 addition to the William B. Jaffe Memorial Fund, designation pending.
