Ruth Streeter, widow of our Tom, is one of six people in the United States to receive the George McAneny Historical Preservation Medal by the American Scenic and Historical Society. The honor, "for making Speedwell Village possible," was awarded in January at a New York luncheon.
Ruth was made the first director of the USMC Womens Reserve, and in 1945 held the rank of Colonel. She was national president of the Colonial Dames nt America from 1948 to 1952 and holds he own place in Who's Who in America.
Tom, who died in 1965 at the age of 81, was from a Dartmouth family which reached back to the Class of 1777. He received an honorary LL.D. from the College in 1946. He was known as the collector of the last great library of Americana, and was a prodigious benefit tor of the College.
The Streeters with their three sons, daughter, and grandchildren were all together to celebrate Tom's 80th birthday at their Morristown, N.J., home where Ruth still lives. Son Tom Jr. is a member of the Class of 1944.
