Oh, how the Hanover scene will be changing! In my activity for the Admissions Office, I recently received a packet of 37 preliminary application cards, of which 25 were from girls. The committeemen who have been interviewing them have found them, almost without exception, to be bright, attractive and genuinely motivated toward Dartmouth.
Incidentally, I have found few activities as interesting and enjoyable as interviewing candidates for admission, and then following the careers of some of the successful ones. With the expansion of the College under the four-term plan, the Admissions Office will undoubtedly be able to use additional help from alumni, and there is no better way of keeping in touch with what is happening in Hanover. If you're interested, please drop me a line, and I'll be happy to put you in touch with the National Enrollment Committeeman for the area in which your home or office is located.
And speaking of dropping me a line: the well is running dry of news from all of you. All correspondence will be gratefully received. For those of you who have not yet paid your class dues write a note on the back of the bill, and Don Furber will send it along.
Bill White used this procedure, to inform us that he, Patte and the kids have moved to 3005 Iroquois Road, Wilmette, Ill. 60091, where they still re-hash the joys of last year's Reunion.
A belated look at the Wall Street Journal of November 26 shows that Joel Goldberg' has been named president and chief operating officer of Rich's, Inc., the major department store in Atlanta, Ga. Joel's prior position there, after a 17-year career up the ladder, was senior v.p., merchandising publicity, display and branch stores. He and Carol have three children.
A clipping from "Wilshire Business," a Los Angeles" publication, features a handsome shot of Bill Bower, sales promotion specialist for Eastman Kodak Company. Bill coordinates national and local advertising for Kodak, with which he has been connected since 1950, and creates promotional campaigns for dealers and salesmen. Bill, either that picture was taken shortly after graduation, or you've found the Fountain of Youth. If you claim your secret is clean living, I'll remind you of a certain week at Kennebunk Beach, Maine, in 1948.
The forthcoming edition of Encyclopaedia Brittanica will contain a major article on Peter the Apostle, by Dr. Dan O'Connor, professor of religion at St. Lawrence University. Dan has recently conducted student archaeological seminars in Israel, Athens, and Rome, and last summer served as area supervisor for an archaeological expedition to Khirbet Shema in northern Galilee, Israel. He is also the author of "Peter in Rome," published in 1969 by Columbia University Press.
Get those cards 'n' letters rolling in.
