Buol Hinman has quite properly corrected a mistake in my recent column to report that his company, Rome Strip Steel Company, of which he is president, is a consumer of the output of United States Steel and its competitors. I inadvertently reported that he was connected with U. S. Steel, something I got from the memo pad he used to drop me a note in the late fall. He also reported that he spent a few hours visiting with Walt and Mary Snickenburger in Ithaca during a recent high school hockey game. His son Kirk is assistant captain of the Rome Free Academy team, and his son Mark is manager. Walt's sons Walt Jr. and Tom led the Ithaca High School to a victory over the Rome Free Academy contingent. Buol passes on the information that Walt's sons led the Ithaca football team to one of the best records in New York State and that Walt Jr. was elected to the first string All State Team. He also reports seeing Fred Caswell, the hard-working Rome dentist.

John Knipple was recently promoted to Captain in the United States Navy. He is currently head of the Material Management Division of the Naval Electronic Systems Command. Dick Griebel was the guest speaker at the Executives Club of Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce in December. Dick is president of P. Ballantine & Sons, the well-known beer producer and owner of the Boston Celtics. Prior to joining P. After graduating from Dartmouth, Dick earned his master's degree in business administration from Indiana University. Dick and his family now live in Butler, N. J.

Dick Howe has again been promoted by Mobil Oil. He is now vice president in the Exploration and Producing Department of the company in the North American Division. He is headquartered in Dallas, Texas Dick had previously been general manager of the Midland, Texas, Exploration and Producing Division, having previously served the company in various capacities in both the United States and South America. At last report he was living with his family in Midland, Texas, but has undoubtedly moved to Dallas at this time.

From Chattanooga comes the report that Joe "Snuffy" Davenport Jr. was elected chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Volunteer State Life Insurance Company of which he was president for the past five years. Joe and Alice live on Lookout Mountain with their eight children. Joe has been extremely active in various civic affairs in the Chattanooga area and is currently president of the United Fund, chairman of the board of trustees of Chattanooga Art Association, vice chairman of the board of trustees for Girls Preparatory School, member of the board of trustees at the University of Chattanooga, member of the boards of the YMCA and Junior Achievement, both of which he had previously served as president. In addition he has served on the boards of various corporations in the area.

Dr. Daniel W. O'Connor, professor of religion at St. Lawrence University, has recently published a distinguished study entitled "Peter in Rome," devoted to the residence, martyrdom, and burial of St. Peter. The reviews of his book have been out-standing. Dan has been a member of the faculty at St. Lawrence since 1959, having earned his bachelor of divinity degree from Columbia in 1956 and his Ph.D. from the same university in 1959. Dan, Carolyn, and their two children live in Canton, N. Y.

The final bit of news this month is about our well-known reunion chairman, DaveWeld. At the annual stockholders' meeting of the Lawrence R. McCoy & Company, Dave was promoted to senior vice president of the company. A reception and dinner in his honor followed the meeting. Dave joined the McCoy Company, a wholesale lumber company in Worcester, Mass., following graduation and, for the past thirteen years, has been its largest producer. He is one of its marketing managers in New Jersey and lives with his wife Jean and three children in North Caldwell where he is also active in community and church affairs.
