Vice President for Administration
MARCH 1972

Rodney A. Morgan '44, a Buffalo, N.Y., business executive, has been named Vice President for Administration at Dartmouth College. The appointment, announced by President Kemeny in late February, completes the top-level administrative reorganization of the College, following two earlier phases, announced in January. Mr. Morgan will assume his duties July 1.

In his new position, Mr. Morgan will be the chief business officer of the College and will report directly to the President. He will have line responsibility for the Business Manager's organization, the Comptroller's Office, the Office of Employee Relations, and the Hanover Inn. He will also serve as Acting Treasurer succeeding Paul F. Young '43, a member of the Dartmouth administration for 20 years and Treasurer since 1970, who recently announced his resignation, effective lune 30, to become treasurer of the Dartmouth Savings Bank.

Mr. Morgan, who graduated from Dartmouth with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, is currently Assistant to the President of the Spaulding Fibre Co. in Buffalo, a component part of Monogram Industries. He has been with the company in various capacities since 1948.

For three years he was Managing Director of Spaulding Russell, Ltd., a British subsidiary. During that period he reorganized the British firm, negotiated the acquisition of two other companies, and completed the merger of the three companies.

From 1946 to 1948 Mr. Morgan was with Hewitt-Robbins Co. in engineering assignments. From 1944 to 1946 he served in the U. S. Navy, mainly aboard destroyer escorts in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

An active water colorist, Mr. Morgan is a life member of the Albright Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo. He is an elder of the Presbyterian Church there, is on the board of the Crag Burn Golf Club, and is racing chairman for the Buffalo Ski Club.

As a Dartmouth undergraduate he was a member of the ski and golf teams and played in the band and orchestra.

He is married to the former Suzanne Naeher and they have three children.

The reorganization of the administrative structure of Dartmouth actually started last summer when Leonard M. Rieser '44, then Provost, was named Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In mid-January of this year, Ruth Adams, retiring president of Wellesley College, was named a vice president of Dartmouth. She will use her experience in helping the College's transition to coeducation and in strengthening the professional role of women in the faculty, administration, and staff.

The last week in January brought the appointment of two additional vice presidents: Dr. Carleton B. Chapman, Dean of the Dartmouth Medical School, and Prof. Donald L. Kreider, first incumbent of the new position of Dean for Student Affairs, to complete the reorganization of the academic administration.

The appointment of Mr. Morgan as Vice President for Administration and Acting Treasurer, completes the organization of the non-academic administration as he joins three others who either hold the title or operate at the vice presidential level. They are George H. Colton '35, Vice President with responsibility in the areas of development and alumni relations; John F. Meek '33, Vice President and Chairman of the Trustee Investment Committee, and William P. Davis Jr., Budget Officer.
