Secretary-Treasurer, 3394 Dartmouth Lane Sarasota, Fla. 33580
At the time of the heavy snows in the Midwest, below-zero temperature readings in New England, and floods in West Virginia, the Dartmouth Club of Sarasota, joined by the Florida Alumni Association of St. Petersburg, gathered in 72-degree sunny weather at the Holiday Inn of Lido Key, to welcome President and Mrs. John Kemeny and to hear his talk on "Dartmouth Today."
This mid-winter meeting attracted 148 alumni, wives, and friends of Dartmouth. Classes were represented from RogerBrown '05 and Leon Sprague '07 to two members of 1954. The attendance score by classes closed in a dead heat of 7 each by 1927 and 1929.
President Kemeny covered today's issues of "Women on the Campus," the "Dartmouth Plan," cancelled government subsidies for military officers in graduate programs, "off campus studies," foot-ball, swimming and winter sports in a workmanlike manner which stimulated informative questions.
However, remaining unresolved and on which President Kemeny declined to take a stand was the question of explaining the phrase "Men of Dartmouth" to the new female undergraduates.
