The College Library has issued a microfilm edition of The Papers ofEleazar Wheelock, together with theEarly Archives of Dartmouth College &Moor's Indian Charity School andRecords of the Town of Hanover, through the year 1779.

A printed guide, with a calendar and comprehensive index of all 4900 items included in the 16 reels of microfilm, accompanies the edition. The guide includes an introductory essay by College Librarian Edward Connery Lathem '51 about Wheelock's career and the preservation and processing of the papers over the years. Roderick D. Stinehour '50 of the Stinehour Press designed and printed the guide.

Mr. Lathem notes that the resources involved in the project, which date back to 1728, were initially sorted out and a beginning made at recording them by the late Henry K. Pierce '04, while he was an undergraduate. The system of identifying numbers which he devised is still in use.

Participating sponsors of the microfilm edition were the National Historical Publications Commission, the Council on Library Resources of Washington, D. C., the Dartmouth Bicentennial Planning Committee, and the Kenneth F. Montgomery Foundation of Chicago.
