Greetings from your secretary as we begin the 1973-1974 notes with an address change. JackAllenberg has moved to 400 Cambridge Drive, Richardson, Texas 75080. Jack had moved last spring to a reported address in Anaheim, Calif. This is but one instance of the difficulties of keeping an address list up to date since changes are made even while compilation goes on.
Regretfully we must report the loss of two classmates this summer. John E. Hill passed on in Rutland, Vt., in late June and Fran Trent died in Toledo, 0., in early July. Services for John were held in the Trinity Episcopal Church in Rutland with his family in attendance. Professor Emeritus Allen R. Foley and Horace and MargueriteDalrymple represented the 1920 Class. Information about Fran Trent has not yet been collected at this time.
The final phase of the memorial to TommyThomson was held in the Leverone Field House on June 12, 1973. A beautiful bronze plaque now adorns the southwest wall of the Leverone Field House as a permanent memorial to a revered classmate. Many classmates, track team associates, college and other friends gathered to pay tribute to a much admired man. It was especially fitting that Anne, Tommy's widow, and Mary, one of Tommy's twin daughter's, and her husband, the Reverend Blaine Libbey were present. Charlie McGoughran officiated; Reverend Libbey gave the invocation; former Governor Sherm Adams provided the main tribute to Tommy, the man; and Athletic Director Seaver Peters responded for the College. Laddie Myers contributed in absentia with a fine letter containing his feelings about the Thomson memorial and his long-time friend. Many 1920 men and their wives were present.
Al Foley will no doubt treat more fully the midsummer frolic of 1920-1921 and others at Hackberry Farm in Canterbury, N.H., where Bob and Martha Burroughs spend much of their summer season. In numbers 1921 dominated the scene but there were a goodly number of 1920 men and women present. Particularly we should mention two '20 men in attendance for the first time: Ken Hussey from Haverhill, Mass., and Warrie Gault from Worcester.
In celebration of their golden wedding anniversary Phil and Hilda Gross locked up Birch Acres in New Condon, N.H., and took a cross country train ride from Montreal to British Columbia and return. This trip, said to be one of the finest, is an excellent way to enjoy scenic beauty in a leisurely fashion. We congratulate them.
News comes through the strangest channels. From a May editorial in the Boston Globe under the title "All in the Head" comes this definition, "Affluence is a state of mind that exists when a person has a surplus over needs rather than a deficit under fancied wants." How apt this is. The supplier of this trenchant quotation is none other than our Allan M. Cate of Needham, Mass. This bit of wisdom was clipped from the Globe and travelled from Florida to New Hampshire to Arizona and back to New Hampshire again for publication in this column. Not unlike the old check clearing and collection system in the pre-Federal Reserve days.
Gleaned from the new Tuck School publication, Tuck To-day, we have learned that Paul Kay was married in December 1972 to Dorothy G. Adams. We congratulate them and wish them many years of happiness.
Howard and Helen Pullen, long time residents of Battle Creek, Mich., have recently supplied the following family sketches. Their son David '61 is located in Tucson, Ariz., with the U.S. Air Force. Dave is currently unmarried and a devotee of the great out-of-doors. At an appropriate time in his career he intends to switch to cattle ranching in the great Southwest where his love of dogs, horses, and guns can be fulfilled. Daughter Mary Ann, her husband George C. Schaefer, and their daughter Colby are currently residing in lovely villa Zografau, a wall-encircled home in the heart of Athens, Greece. George serves as Special Services Director in the U.S. Navy Fleet Support Office.
Muir and Dorothy Lind have departed from Birmingham, Mich., to take up residence in Leland, Mich. 49654. In case you don't know it, Leland is on Lake Michigan in an area bounded by that Great Lake and the Grand Traverse Bay which is a part of it.
It is with sadness we record the passing of Marie, beloved wife of Len Davis, in LaGrange, 111. Marie was a native of Penacook, N.H., and now rests there. We also report regretfully the death of Elizabeth, widow of the late DutchSchlobohm.in Richmond, Virginia.
Adios, amigos.
