With the appointment of new four-star General Robert J. Dixon '41 to command of the U.S. Air Force tactical Air Command, the Class of 1941 can boast representation in two commands of the Air Force. General John C. Meyer heads the Strategic Air Command. General Dixon's appointment was effective October 1.
A veteran of 235 combat hours in 65 missions in World War 11, General Dixon has served with distinction in a variety of positions. In 1969 while assistant deputy chief of staff, personnel, for military personnel, and commander of USAF Military Personnel Center, Randolph Air Force Base, he received that year's Eugene M. Zuckert Management Award for "demonstrated outstanding management leadership ..."
He served from July 1969 to August 1, 1970 in Vietnam as vice commander of the Seventh Air Force with the rank of lieutenant general. Subsequently he was assigned to USAF headquarters, Washington, as deputy chief of staff, personnel. Among his decorations are the Distinguished Service Cross, the distinguished Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
