James C. Strickler '50 is the new Dean of the Dartmouth Medical School.
Professor of Medicine and, since 1967, Associate Dean, Dr. Strickler succeeds Dr. Carleton Chapman, who resigned to become vice president of the Commonwealth Fund.
Dr. Strickler completed his first two years of medical training at Dartmouth and received his M.D. degree from Cornell in 1953. After his internship at New York Hospital and two years' service in the Pacific as a Navy MEDICAL Officer, he joined the Cornell medical faculty. He returned to Dartmouth in 1965.
President Kemeny, chairman of the search committee which chose Dr. Strickler unanimously from among 100 candidates, cited the new Dean's distinguished service to the Medical School since he joined the faculty. He noted particularly Dr. Strickler's work as one of the chief architects of the new three-year M.D. program and his service as chairman of the recent Medical School survey committee.
