On November 3 I went to the Dartmouth- Yale game at Hanover with Phil Evans '17 and Dick Barnard '30 who did most of the driving. We left at 8:30 a.m. and reached home at 7:30 p.m. There were two old timers on hand, your scribe, 90, and Ned Redman '06, 90. It was a very exciting game to win 24-13. We are now in a three-way tie for first place in the Ivy League. Dartmouth, Harvard, and Perm each have won three games and lost one. Yale beat us last year 45-14.

This year's Harvard-Dartmouth game on October 27 was the 70th anniversary of the dedication of the then new stadium. We won this game 24-18. We won the first game 11-0. The Class had seven men on the team: Clough, Dillon,Gilman, Knibbs, Lillard, Patteson, and Vaughn.Fred Chase was assistant manager. We now have seven men of '05 who are alive today who were at that game: Balph, Blatner, Brown,Chase, Falconer, Hill, and White.

I went to the Harvard game with my son, granddaughter and her husband, and Phil Evans '17. It was the most exciting game I ever attended.

Dr. William P. Clough Jr., son of our Dr.Bill, was recently elected to the American College of Surgeons at their Chicago meeting, to be one of 54 men members of the board of governors.

During the Dartmouth-Yale game a call came over the public address system, "Dr. William P. Clough, please call at the booth." How many times have we heard this call for our Dr. Clough?

Birthdays coming up: Brown, January 10, 91-years-old; Elliott, February 3, 91; and Falconer, February 16, 92.

Mildred Putnam recently had her annual physical check-up. Like us all, she gets tired sooner and can't accomplish as much as she used to. The doctor says this is "normal." Her special joy is her granddaughter Salley who gave birth to a son, Robert Ryan Dillion, in Sacramento, Calif. Mildred is now a genuine great-grandmother.

It is our very sad duty to report the death of Ina Russell, widow of our Varney, on September 28. Shortly after his death she had made a gift of $100 to have Varney enrolled in our special '05 Memorial Fund.

Ernest White reports he still goes to his office for a couple of hours daily. His secretary has been with him for 37 years and his oldest client is 101 years old. Ernest and his son John went to Holderness School's big game with Kimball Union Academy which Holderness won. Ernest was happy to report his grandson Ben has applied to Dartmouth for the Class of 1978.

A card on October 27 from Ida Parkinson tells that Washington State has received its much-needed rain. There had been no frost and her roses remained just beautiful. She says she is well and happy, and enjoys her few activities - clubs, church, etc.

A note from Bill Blatner says they will not make it to Florida this winter. He sends regards to all '05 boys and girls.

Fred Chase planned to leave for Florida November 14 and was given a family luncheon November 10 at the Hanover Inn, including Philip Chase '07 and Hugh Chase '36.

We talked to Herford Elliott's wife Priscilla and she reports that Herford has had a slow down. They will not go to their favorite Watter Island in the Bahamas this winter but may make it to Florida. Hope we see them there.
