Remember the lyrics "Way down south in Trinidad, the songs they sing are very bad?" For those of you with short memories those words commenced the World War II song of "Rum and Coca-Cola" which ended extolling the nefarious pursuits of mother and daughter. Having just returned from those tropical climes (business, this time!) I can personally attest to the fact that either times have changed or what we heard in years gone by was really the mystical meanderings of a maundering mind. Only one sedate person was observed sipping the infamous drink - and never was mother seen with daughter! However, intriguing the island definitely is! A combination of Blacks, East Indians, Chinese, French Creoles, English, and Americans makes for a unique culture that, strangely enough, is ultraconservative. For vacationing tourists it is not to be highly recommended as facilities are not aim in this direction - but, for sociologists C students of different societies it is a must. And stand back and watch the explosive future of this small piece of real estate! Even heard that Gunther Perdue had been in Port of Spain only two weeks before checking out the onion raising potential of the interior!

Getting back to real life-styles we should be brought up to date on comrade Quent Kopp who I saw two weeks ago in San Francisco. In accord with usual custom, my conversation time with Bis Q was supplied by accompanying him from his downtown office to City Hall where, again, 1 had the opportunity of attending a City Council Meeting. Eiiroute I learned that Quent had been previously touted by the San Francisco Examiner as the best choice for Director of BART Although these initials, if X-rated, might mean "Broads are Regular Teasers" the truth of the matter requires the translation "Bay Area Rapid Transit." Quent was touted as "tough-minded and frequently acerbic," an "independent," "outspoken," "perceptive," and "a Hell-raiser," but these obviously non-party noms de plume did not deter his final appointment as the Don Quixote of the first subway system west of Chicago Ride it - you'll like it!

Wil Wilson of Tacoraa, Wash., has preserved his right to visit the Windy City from time to time. As operations manager for Weyerhaeuser Company's shipping container and containerboard division he has been reappointed as a director to help lead The Fibre Box Association of Chicago, III., to bigger and better things in serving a vast 3.5 billion dollar industry. Win, Cynthia. Joy, Ann, Scott, and Charlie are currently enjoying the boating raptures of Puget Sound.

Early to bed and fast starter Bob Pridham has something to crow about recently. His son Robert C. Pridham has been named by President Kemeny to be a Senior Fellow next year, his last at Dartmouth. Unlike the old man, son Robert has taken to the arts, namely theater, and will be pursuing his talents independently of classrooms in 1973-1974. Bob Jr.'s senior project will be "Theater of the Supernatural" and he hopes to include the production of a play in his curriculum. That won't be a unique experience for Robert as he has assisted in producing plays in the past and was fortunate enough to participate in a 13-week residence during his sophomore year at the National Theatre Institute in Waterford, Conn.

Although June of 1974 may appear to you to be in the far distant future, let me remind you that probably as early as December you will be receiving missives from Albert "Bud" Hughes, our volunteer chairman, inviting you to sample the exotic wonders of Storrs Pond by moonlight and kegs by tent light. In fact in just two days Bud will be meeting with Sam Kilner and myself at Herb Gramstorff's home to start the reunion yearbook headed toward the printers. Herb has some exciting ideas for this one and only classic but will need help from all of you in the nature of snapshots and anecdotes from college years as well as photos of major events since you sported the cap and gown. So, get busy rummaging through those crammed desk drawers and musty attics and forward all grunkle to Herb Gramstorff, R.D. 2, Box 237, New Canaan, Conn. 06840. It's later than you think!

And another reminder. The 1973 Alumni Fund Campaign chiefed by Clarke Church will soon be needing a tribe of Indians and much wampum This year should be Clarke's best as he is expect; ing an assignment of all claims for refunds of overpaid withholding taxes. You need merely add a box to your 1040 asking that the refund Indirected to your favorite charitable fund. This will also help the next year's tax bite, thus generating additional refunds which can also be assigned. Thus after one initial assignment the Dartmouth College Alumni Fund will be self-supporting!
