Robert A. Ariel '73 of New York City has been selected as one of the 30 Marshall Scholars from the United States for the academic year 1973-74. Fie will use the two-year appointment to study physics and philosophy at Balliol College, Oxford.
A chemistry major at Dartmouth, Ariel has been cited for his work in courses in philosophy, economics (twice), and religion. During the summer of 1971 he assisted in research work in the Dartmouth chemistry department under a National Heart Institute grant. A graduate of the Trinity-Pawling School, he was a cum Jaude graduate there and class valedictorian. He is the son of Dr. Irving M. Ariel of 80 East End Ave., New York City.
The Marshall Scholarships were established after World War II by the United Kingdom of Great Britain as an expression of gratitude for the postwar Marshall Plan Aid tendered by the United States. The, scholarships, providing $3500 a year, enable U.S. citizens, graduates of U.S. universities, to study for two years at universities in the United Kingdom.
