At the closing luncheon for class officers, the Class of 1935 was honored as Dartmouth's Class of the Year. College Secretary J. Michael McGean '49 presented Class President John Wallace-with the symbolic gavel inscribed: "In recognition of an outstanding program through the superior organization of class interest and participation to the benefit of the College and the cause of higher education."

In making the award, McGean cited 1935 for Alumni Fund achievement - the highest dollar total ever achieved by a non-reunion class, plus 76 percent participation: dues campaign - 62 percent participation; Class Project - support for activities at the Hopkins Center; regional activities - regional committees and program of class luncheons; widow's program - annual correspondence with over 50 widows; executive committee - annual meeting and activity in many areas; presidential report three times in past year; fall reunion which attracted 100 people; outstanding newsletter; class directory Under preparation; and institution of an Award of Merit to a member for service to College and Class.

Honorable mention went to the Classes of 1905, 1911, 1923, 1926, 1931, 1941, 1953, 1954, 1964, 1965, and 1972.
