Donald C. McKinlay '37 of Denver, Colo., was nominated as an Alumni Trustee by the 127th meeting of the Dartmouth Alumni Council at Hanover, January 10-12. He would succeed Thomas W. Braden '40 of Chevy Chase, Md., when Mr. Braden completes his second five-year term in June.
A recipient of a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Chicago in 1940, Mr. McKinlay has practiced law in Denver ever since, with the exception of four years with the U.S. Navy in World War II. He is a partner in the firm of Holme, Roberts, and Owen. He was secretary-chairman of his class from 1937 to 1942, a member of the Alumni Council. 1953-56, and its vice president, 1955-56. He was also chairman of the National Enrollment Committee while serving on the Alumni Council. He was honored by the Council with its Alumni Award in 1963.
McKinlay has just completed a four- year term as trustee and secretary of the United Way and is currently the Secretary of the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies and a director of the Urban League.
Unless other nominations are received within two months of this published report, Mr. McKinlay's name will go to the Board of Trustees as the nominee of the alumni for the vacancy on the Board. Following is the section of the Alumni Association constitution providing- for Trustee nominations other than those put forward by the Alumni Council:
"Within two months after such publication in the Alumni Magazine any one hundred alumni qualified to vote for the Council of Alumni may file with the said secretary a petition over their own signatures for the nomination of a qualified alumnus for the office of Alumni Trustee. Said secretary shall as soon as practicable after expiry of the period for nomination by petition, send to each alumnus, qualified to vote, an official ballot containing the name of the alumnus nominated by the Council for the office of Trustee and the name or names of candidates nominated by petition, as aforesaid. No voting by proxy shall be allowed in voting for Alumni Trustees.
“if no candidates are nominated by petition as above set forth, no voting for Trustee shall take place, and the alumnus nominated by the Council shall be the candidate of the alumni for the office of Trustee.'
