Energy Czar Jeffrey Herman '75 stands in the gathering gloom in front of Sessions Annex at Smith College, where he is currently energy-czaring as an exchange student.
Elected to the post by fellow Annexmen, Czar Herman is leading the house in intramural competition in energy reduction. Under his stern regimen - a system that includes daily progress reports, substitution of low-wattage bulbs for high, no hall lights from 7 a.m. till dark, and notation of who is using electric blankets - Sessions Annex achieved a 30 percent reduction for November and a four-way tie for second place. The winning house'was awarded a beer-and-pizza party by Smith's Director of the Physical Plant.
Says Herman of the Annexmen's informal war with Elizabeth Drew House, another runner-up, "It's all in the spirit of friendly competition. We are not necessarily setting out to prove that men are better energy conservers than women.” (Italics: Dartmouth's)
