Most of the records of our early financial matters appeared in class reports, and are now included in the big "Secretary's Book." When Judge Keniston became treasurer he used a special book in which he kept a detailed account of class dues, and so on. Later this book came into the hands of Bob Clark, our last treasurer, who duly recorded receipts and payments. Our action at the 1972 Reunion not only gave our funds to the College to help in refurbishing of the 1902 Room in the library, but made it unnecessary to have a treasurer, because the work could easily be added to that of the secretary. Recently Jessie sent to the secretary this book to be placed eventually with the "Secretary's Book" in the College Archives.

We have often wondered about archives, and somehow have decided that some of them must be very dismal places. Not long ago considerable publicity was given to a very important discovery. But it was not like that of gold in California; it was the finding of a certain manuscript in the archives of a famous library, where it had been for many, many years. That incident seemed to indicate that "archives" is a term for a place to hide things.

Then we have wondered what some future searchers might find about our Class of 1902 in the Dartmouth Library Archives. Would he find that this class brought to Dartmouth an unusual number of fine track athletes; that after the men of this class had been thoroughly initiated into many of its infinite varieties, the student body voted to abolish the age-old custom of hazing; that our oldest man at graduation was 33, and our youngest 19; that four of our number served the College many years as professors? It would be sad indeed if he could find nothing.
