Good news! Sam Hobbs has accepted the position of class agent, thus filling the last vacancy in our list of officers. Although this is the last month of the 1974 Alumni Fund campaign, it is not too late to send in your contribution if you haven't already done so. More than ever the College needs your help this year, and as you know we have lost several large contributors. Sam is officially through with his job as secretary-treasurer of the South California Chapter of American Concrete Institute. Marian and Sam were in San Francisco the first week in April where Sam was the recipient of one of the A.C.I. 1974 Awards. Honorary membership in A.C.I, was conferred on him by the retiring president from Washington, D.C. This is but one of many acknowledgments of his ability and worth in his field. For the entire Class we extend hearty congratulations.

Syd Clark continues to travel and write. According to his latest itinerary he spent a month recently in England getting material for one of his travel books. He sure has guts as shown in the following from his last letter: "I'll be hampered a lot by having to walk with a cane, devoting to that implement my right hand which is worth several of my left any day."

Irv Putnam has had his share of hard luck. His wife, Ruth, died last October after a long illness. Then one of his daughters suffered a fractured hip necessitating two operations before a good result was obtained. Another daughter had a lung operation this February, but no cancer was found. It is plainly evident why Irv is living alone, at least for the present. According to his report he remains healthy and can enjoy his 5 o'clock refreshment with the best of us. If he needs any sympathy, here it is from all of us.

Gracious appreciative letters have been received from Marian Dorward and MargaretMiddlebrook for the Memorial Books given to the Baker Library in memory of their husbands.

No reply from Geiser, Newcomb, Blythe, and Farrington this year. Hope they are doing well. Jimmie Cleaves is till in a nursing home as his son wrote last year. Belatedly we received word of Dave Dorward's death in January 1974, leaving us with 50 members. Elwyn Taber sent us the sad news of Florence Lewis' death in Venice, Fla. on March 30, 1974. We had many happy hours with her and Roy at their home in Lebanon.

For the first time in the 12 years your secretary has been functioning, he was unable to attend the Class Officers meeting in Hanover in May because of difficulty getting about. This was not anticipated until recently and was a real disappointment.
