A major Dartmouth event took place in San Francisco, May 17, 18, and 19, entitled "Dartmouth in San Francisco." This great cultural happening featured President John Kemeny, who gave the key-note address at the Saturday evening banquet. The banquet took place at The Four Seas, in Chinatown. Well over 200 guests were treated to a nine course Chinese feast.
The theme of the weekend was "Critical Choices for America." The conference opened with President Kemeny discussing Man and the Computer, in which he described how major world problems will be solved through the joint efforts of men and computers.
The second presentation was given by Alan Gaylord and David Sherman (Class of '36 and a founding editor of Life Magazine). In a slide and film presentation the two outlined the importance of various forms of I media in present and future communication of information and ideas.
The luncheon address featured JamesStrickler 50, Dean of the Dartmouth Medical School. Dr. Strickler focused his attention upon solutions to the major ; problems of medicine in America in the : years to come.
In the afternoon, Gordon MacDonald discussed natural resources and the environment, with emphasis upon the energy crisis. Later, a summation panel included the above speakers in a discussion chaired by Melvin Wax '40.
This fabulous weekend ended with a champagne brunch cruise on San Francisco Bay. In appropriate fashion we topped off the term of Oerek T. Knudsen 65, as president of the Northern California-Nevada Chapter. Chairman of the conference was J.nomas Hannan 60.
