There's nothing like a victory to lift one's spirits. Doug Burch sent on news of family and business in early November, all of it good. His company, Creative Media Services, Inc. (growing by leaps and bounds") had just finished handling the media planning and strategy for the Ella Grasso for Governor campaign in Connecticut in conjunction with a Fairfield firm which did the creative work for the successful campaign. The Burches' daughter Wendy is a sophomore at Briarcliff and son Jeff is a senior at the University of Connecticut and a Demers Scholarship winner, as reported previously.
From North Plainfield, N.J., Bob Bach writes of a remarriage last July and relays news about his artistic offspring. Daughter Robin is a sophomore at the University of Bridgeport (Theater School) and son Del, on a leave of absence from the University of Hartford, was singing with a Gilbert & Sullivan group in New York.
Bill Childs acknowledges: "I don't know you." But he contributes information vital and not so vital. (No, I'm no relation to the Hanover "Fletch"). Bill bought a Welsh mare in October of 1972 which surprised him by presenting him with a foal in May of 1973. Then he admits to a smart move and a dumb move. He says he was smart enough to remarry in June of 1973. But his dumb move, as he describes it, was to suffer a heart attack in August of '74. This we are sorry to hear. Bill also tells of the purchase of a springer puppy in November, but refuses to classify this as smart or dumb.
Ham and Dottie Chase are down to two children at home. Bob, a high school freshman, is a hockey player and Sue, a junior, is a twirler for the band and a promising gymnast. Tom and Dave are in pre-veterinary study at the University of New Hampshire, Fred is at college in Rhode Island, and Carol attends night classes at the University of Pennsylvania. The Chases are involved in the building of a new skating rink in Keene, N.H. They've had a visit from the FrankWebers and stopped in to see George andCarolyn Bingham down Boston way.
We mentioned last month that Manny Benero was finishing up a tour of duty in Uruguay. As chief of the Navy Section, he administered the military assistance program as it applied to the modest navy that exists there. Manny write that his next duty station will be at the Naval base in Rota, Spain, where he will be executive officer. (Wouldn't I like to be able to get over there to see him. It's been too long since that first civilian summer at Hanover.)
Although the Bill Clays live only a few blocks away, we see each other too seldom. Theirs is a busy and interesting family. Jeanne Marie at age 14 is a fine figure skater - a gold medalist in U. S.-Canadian competition in Lake Placid in July and winner of a gold medal in New England competition in September. Gary is a pre-med at Tufts and worked his way through France last summer on a canal grain barge. Son Bob spent the summer working in New Zealand, decided he wants to become a businessman, and is transferring from Drew University to Babson. While Bill takes care of the Buxton "leather works," the missus (Agnes) serves as a skating "companion" when not involved with social and charitable commitments.
The proudest man in California may be Joe Eisaman. Wife, Karren gave birth to his fourth daughter - Liv Anne - October 21, ("I now have a complete harem.") Also, his client, Ballentine's Scotch, decided to run their nostalgia ad for the 1934 Harvard-Yale game in alumni magazines across the U.S. Says Joe "It's quite a thrill to see one of Eisaman, Johns & Laws' ads in my own college magazine."
Back before the snows came Bob Bohn was playing gold in Bridgeport. Before the round was over he learned that one of the foursome had a brother who had gone to Dartmouth and who happens to be me. (The rest of my family has time for frivolous activities like golf). Bob has a three-year-old granddaughter and a 20- year-old daughter in the Class of '76 at Dartmouth. She won a D in basketball and is on the tennis and field hockey teams. Bob is president of Preferred Utilities Mfg. Co. and along with three daughters, has a son entered in the Class of 1987.
