The meeting January 24 at the Blackstone, besides being our first in the year 1951, a year of who-knows-what developments, gave most of us our first insight into the problems facing the College in the immediate future. GeorgeParkhurst '30, recently returned from an Alumni Council meeting in Hanover, reported at some length on the discussions of that meeting, particularly those pertaining to the probable loss of a large percentage of undergraduates (25%-50% estimated) to the armed services by the beginning of the next college year. Despite the continuance of the present NROTC program and the addition this year of a new Army Ordnance training program, the number of students subject to immediate draft call has presented the College Administration with most serious'problems. Although it is evident that every effort is being made to lessen the gravity of this abrupt decrease in enrollment, certainly this is a time when the active support of alumni is needed to sustain the unique spirit and aspirations of the College as an educational institution.

Treasurer Art Lund, '27 advised that in accord with the decisions of the Club at the November meeting, the total profits derived from the Glee Club party last March had been sent to Hanover to be held as the initial funds of a scholarship in the name of the Dartmouth Club of Baltimore. When these funds have been increased sufficiently, they will provide financial aid to the needy boys from this area who meet the scholarship requirements of the College.

Final arrangements on the Ladies Night party February 21 were disclosed by LeonardDunn '26. A lively gathering was expected but a full report of this one will be forthcoming next month.

Those attending the January meeting were: Bill Grant '19, Len Dunn '26, Art Lund '27, Walter Kirkpatrick '29, George Parkhurst '30, Doug Kelly '32, Charlie Armes '34, Bill McKnight '37, Dud Richards '39, Ed Pierce '41, Dick Koester '43, Bob Moyer '43, Bailey Walten '43, Phil Brown '44, Mac Grant '50, and Stanley Kogan '52.
