THOMAS TRUXTUN BRITTAN '29
Each year when you pack your long underwear, heavy sweaters and rain gear everyone knows that you, Ruth and the Dartmouth Baseball Team are about to leave for the South in search of spring, sunshine and some early season wins. The latter, though difficult, are easier to come by.
As a veteran member of the loyal alumni coaching staff, you faithfully follow the team through the entire season by bus, car and canoe, if portage from the Connecticut River to the ball park is not too far for Ruth. Although you keep telling her that getting there is half the fun, she favors following the basketball team at the gym. It's all fun. If you had owned a TV you could have had even more fun watching a wide world of sports. Incidentally, did the top officialdom of BBD&O ever know that the distribution of their cleverly prepared commercials was boycotted in your own home?
After four years - one as captain - on the ski team, you slid into the banking business soon after graduation in a year when many of your peers became apple sellers on Wall Street, then a CPA with Arthur Andersen and on to be comptroller with BBD&O until your retirement in 1962 when you returned to Hanover.
With this professional background it is logical that you would be elected class treasurer. In addition you have been an assistant class agent, a member of the class executive committee for 30 years, vice president for five years and chairman of reunions past and of reunions to come until 1979. While serving your Class you also have been an active vice president of the Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley.
With abiding appreciation for faithfully serving the College and your Class, and in grateful recognition of your continuing loyalty and counsel, we give you the Dartmouth Alumni Award.
