On Sunday, September 5, 1976, the Dartmouth Club of St. Louis got together for the annual Labor Day picnic at the farm of Tom Gladder '63. The traditional festivities included the rough and tumble beer Softball game in which the Curtis Crusaders (all 80 of them) took on the Tettlebaum Torrents (Class of '70 and "older"), featuring Harvey the Horrible on the mound. After climbing to a 12-4 lead the Torrents blew it in the last of the ninth when the Crusaders stormed back with nine runs to win 13-12. The game is currently under protest, but indications are that the League Commissioner, who by chance also happens to be the captain of the Crusaders, will squelch any investigation.
Earlier in May the club celebrated its 50th anniversary and elected a new slate of officers. It has also come to my attention that the St. Louis club was recently named the small club of the year for 1976. Congratulations go out to all who have contributed in making this award possible.
