The Indian Symbol
February 1976

In November 1975 the Board of Trustees discussed reports concerning renewed use of the Indian symbol. To remove any doubts about the official position of the College on this matter, the Trustees reaffirmed the following portion of the statement issued by them in October 1974: The Board considers use of the symbolin any form to be inconsistent withthe present institutional and academicobjectives of the College in advancingNative American education. TheBoard therefore urges all members ofthe Dartmouth family to join in a spiritof understanding and support for theNative American members of theCollege and their educational program.
