Twenty-Two extends warm congratulations to Walter and Doris Sands and gratitude to their two sons for the Officials' Room in Dartmouth's superb Rupert Thompson Arena. The honorary plaque designating the room carries the following inscription: "Given in Honor of Walter E. Sands 1922 - By His Sons - Frank E. Sands II '58 and Robert G. Sands '59." Most appropriately do Frank and Bob so honor their father because Walt himself belongs to the great tradition of hockey at Dartmouth.

Haskell Cohn, former president of the Boston Bar Association, recently passed his 50th year as a member of the Massachusetts Bar. In recognition, his law firm associates made a substantial gift to the Trustees of the Boston Bar Association. The funds will be used for an award entitled, "Boston Bar Association Award for Judicial Excellence." This honor will be granted annually or at other intervals to one or more members of the Massachusetts or Federal Judiciary who have rendered distinguished service that calls for special recognition. Haskell in 1933 was one of the founders of the present firm of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Glovsky and Popeo. Throughout the years he has been actively and directly involved in a wide variety of matters relating to the Judiciary, including his membership on the Joint Committee of the Bar Association on Judicial Selection. He has maintained a great personal concern that the Judiciary of Massachusetts and of the United States Courts be persons having the highest qualifications based on education, experience, and character. Felicitations, Haskell, and thanks to Killy Kilmarx for excavating this report on your latest honor.

Likewise, the entire '22 class offers hearty congratulations to Ike and Harriott Miller who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 24. Among other festivities happily noting the occasion, the two grandparents went on a second honeymoon trip to an undisclosed destination, but this time they were accompanied by son Fred, his wife Betty, and grandchildren Martha and George.

This Bicentennial Year is especially meaningful for our Andrew McClary Heath, his wife Helen, their three children, and eight grandchildren. They are descendants of Continental Major Andrew McClary who fell at the battle of Bunker Hill. In honor of Major McClary his home town, Epsom, N.H., has issued a commemorative medal with his portrait. Imagine how the family - particularly the grandchildren - will cherish this memorial.

Andrew M. Jr., eldest son of Andy and Helen, also received distinguished acclamation - a standing ovation from his Harvard College classmates at their 25th Reunion - when he was the pianist for Gershwin's "Concerto in F for Piano and Orchestra" at Symphony Hall, Boston, Arthur Fiedler conducting. Andy Jr. has played both piano and organ from an early age; majored in music at Harvard; and received a fellowship for a year abroad during which he studied conducting in Vienna. He has since conducted in New York, including 30 performances in Carnegie Hall, in Boston, Buffalo, Chicago and Milwaukee. He now lives in Westport, Conn., and is head of the music department at Fairfield University.

Regrettably, not all the news is cheerful. Sadly, Russ Putney departed from us on March 24. An obituary will appear in this issue or the next.

October 15-16 are the dates for 22's football weekend this 1976 autumn when Dartmouth will host - and hopefully humble Harvard - on Hanover's Memorial Field. As usual, Ike Miller has reserved a block of rooms on a combined Friday and Saturday night basis at Howard Johnson's White River Motel. The Class will have its always congenial pre-game luncheon - no reservations required - in the Drake Room beginning about 11 a.m., Saturday, October 16. The post-game dinner - let Ike know if you plan to be there - will be at the Hanover Inn, Room #ll2, the tinkling hour beginning at 6 p.m. Ike's office is ready to receive requests for room and dinner reservations: Gen'l Walter I. Miller, R.F.D., Box 236, Thetford Center, Vt. 05075, or telephone 802-785-2012.

At this time in early May, the Class needs $6,000 to achieve its goal on the 1976 Alumni Fund. Our dedicated Fund Leader, SpennySmith, has had plenty to worry about in the past two months when his wife Marj underwent serious surgery. The gracious Marj is now, thankfully, convalescing at home. You can help Spenny, the Class, and the College by sending in your contribution now before it becomes too late. And, incidentally, as Gray Bates says, "It takes $147 this year to equal a $l00 gift five years ago." You'll enjoy the months ahead more if you send your check now, and may all your summer days be bright and cheerful.
