June brings roses, commencements, and academic awards. As Twoters now pause to appreciate the roses, they might well recall that '22 does indeed have its recipients of scholarly honors. To acknowledge only one group of distinguished classmates, our Phi Beta Kappas received proud acclamation from all of us as they accepted their diplomas in Webster Hall, June 20, 1922. They followed a long tradition, since the Dartmouth Phi Beta Kappa chapter started in 1787 and is the fourth oldest in the country. And now at this commencement season it seems appropriate once again to offer warm congratulations to our own Phi Betes: Ned B. Allen, Gaylord W. Anderson, Troyer S. Anderson, Ulysse Auger, John E. Blunt, John P. Carleton, Malcolm D. Clarke, Haskell Cohn, John H. Fancher, King E. Fauver, Tracy W. Hatch, Alden James, Edward E. Kaplan, Shaw Livermore, Eric C. Malmquist, Winthrop R. Ranney, Lester A. Shelburne, Frederick W. Vogel. Nine of the 18 are still with us. To all a toast of felicitations and fond memories.

Twenty-two cordially welcomes Mrs. PeterKiewit, formerly Marjorie Haskins Buchanan, into our class family. She and Peter were married February 18 in the Fourth Presbyterian Church, Chicago. Marjorie is also a Phi Beta Kappa and is a summa cum laude graduate of Lawrence University. She has served her alma mater in many activities, including presidency of the alumni association. She received in 1972 the Chancellor's Award of Merit for five years of service to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay as chair of its citizens' advisory committee to the school of professional studies. With a new doctor of philosophy degree in educational administration from the University of Chicago, she has recently been engaged as a senior research associate on a project in urban educational studies, based in Dallas. She has served on the National Board of Christian Education of the United Presbyterian Church in the USA and chaired the board's development and information committee. She was also a member of its executive, finance, and investment committees. Both she and Peter are members of the executive board of the Presbyterian Foundation, which he chairs. Her former husband, James P. Buchanan, civic leader and industrialist, died in 1964. He was the brother of William E. Buchanan '24, Dartmouth trustee 1961-73. Marjorie is the mother of four children and grandmother of five. She and Peter will make Omaha home base, with weekends at Palm Springs, Calif., and the Kiewit Ranch in Wyoming. And wherever they may be, the very best wishes of '22 and the entire Dartmouth fellowship accompany them always.

The Class is grateful to John B. Torinus '34, editor of the Appleton, Wise., Post Crescent,. for forwarding the report from which the preceding came.

The last time Twoters experienced the humiliation of unanimity was probably on the appearance of Halley's Comet in 1910, but even then some of us were skeptical. Even now it is pleasant to find at least two classmates who may fully agree on something. Jim Martin says, "I agree with John Kemeny that 65 is a good retirement age. Those whose vigor makes them want to go on working should try some volunteer work like a home Peace Corps job. They could help the victims of unemployment by stepping aside for the oncoming college graduates, and also having the thrill of helping the under-privileged. Bertha and I still live the quiet life, staying within the limits of 'those growing old changes.' " After a teaching career, mainly in the Orange, N.J., high school, Jim retired, and in recent years he and Bertha have been living in Bradenton, Fla.

All Twoters will be pleased to know that StanMiner after two weeks in the hospital is now convalescing satisfactorily at home in West Lebanon.

Sadly, I report that Ted Rassieur and GilmanWallace have left us. Obituaries will follow.

Last call for the Hanover Yale game weekend, October 13-14. If you want a room at Howard Johnson's, let Ike Miller know as soon as possible. Reservations are also required for the post-game class dinner at the Hanover Inn. Reservations are not necessary for the pregame luncheon in the Drake Room.

Time is expiring on the 1978 Alumni Fund. Twenty-two has a tradition to uphold. It has never let Dartmouth down. If you have not yet sent in your share, what are you waiting for?

Have a fine, healthy summer. Keep your blood pressure down and don't hurry on anything except room reservations for the Yale weekend and, most of all, the Alumni Fund.
