As you can see, I have gone from feast to famine as far as news is concerned. I trust things will improve next month.

I had a nice .note from Ray Millemann. He has resigned as professor of fisheries at Oregon State University to accept a position as research scientist in aquatic ecology at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tenn. He will be involved in the evaluation of enviornmental impact statements related to energy research and development by private industry. He spent 13 years at Oregon State. His daughter is graduating from Oregon State next year and his son will be entering his second year there.

Old Stone Bank announced the election of George H. Hartmann to the board of directors. George, who lives in Barrington, R. I., is also president of Davol, Inc., a member of the board of directors of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, and a trustee and member of the executive committee of the Rhode Island Council on Economic Education.

More news on Dick Hanselman. In addition to his position as corporate senior vice president of Beatrice Foods Company, he has been named to an additional post of executive vice president, manufacturing operations. With this appointment he gave up his duties as president of the luggage and home environmental division.

Gordon Thomas reports that the reunion committee is making progress in planning our 30th this June. Gordon, Bud Hughes and TomSchwartz spent September 17 at BobMuenzberg's home in Sturbridge planning budgets. Their wives were included in this get-together and they managed to play a little tennis, and as I am sure you have already guessed, party a little. Bud and Lynn Hughes are now in Scotland where Bud is playing in an invitational golf tournament. Lynn is buying up Scottish antiques as fast as she can. (I assume the trip is not part of the reunion budget.)

Mike Powell, who works at TV station KSFO in San Francisco, was recently given an award by President Carter for "Outstanding achievement in environmental protection service." This award was given for the series he did on the Stanislav River.

Berf Oakley, a classmate we haven't heard from in a long time, writes that he is living in Scottsdale, Ariz. He is teaching school and has entered the political arena. He recently ran for the Arizona State Senate as a conservative republican. Unfortunately, he was defeated. He is also working on his D.B.A. at Arizona State University.

We continue to get news on Quent Kopp. He writes that he can't make the fall reunion weekend because he is running for re-election as chairman of the board of supervisors in San Francisco. We find that an interesting excuse, for as best we can determine, he is unopposed for the office.
