Summer of 1978 ended pleasantly for 65 1930 followers at a northeast reunion in Suffield. Marcia and Meade Alcorn were our hosts, and there was representation from each New England state. New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Florida. Milt Mclnnes will have a complete inventory of attenders in the "Thirtyteer," so this account will report on only a few. Caroline McFarland drove down from Newton with Dot Booma. Dot and BarbaraButler, refreshed from a Dartmouth alumni trip to Majorca, reported that Alice and HermSander were traveling companions and that the latter were then contemplating a trip to Alaska, which was also the destination of Marge andHerb Chase in August. Herb has had no refusals by classmates whom he has asked to staff our 50th reunion to be held June 6-9, 1980.
Music of the twenties and thirties was a part of the Alcorn hospitality, and their piano virtuoso was complemented by Joe Hancort on banjo. Jim Mitchell, hospitalized for surgery while visiting in Seattle in June, has made a strong recovery and drove up from Bronxville.
Charlie Widmayer was high in his praise of the choice of Saul Bellow as the Class of 1930 Fellow. Charlie says: "His public appearance in Spaulding in July was a highlight of the summer term. Certainly we have a class project that is outstanding and will go on benefiting the College for years to come. I am all in favor of channeling our spare money into boosting the endowment to the greatest possible total so that the very top men and women can come as 1930 fellows." Charlie was honored at the 50th anniversary New York dinner of the national alumni publications group "for extraordinary contributions to the progress of periodical publishing during the past half century." Representing Maine were Helena and CharlieAustin and Barbara and Fred Scribner. It couldn't have been a nicer party.
Billie and Fran Horn have returned from Switzerland to Kingston, R.I. Fran will continue for another year as president of the American College of Switzerland in Leysin, but will remain in this country raising funds and recruiting students. A recent news release from The American College in Switzerland says that Fran recently de- livered his 33rd commencement address, at Deree College in Athens. The release describes Fran as having an "unabashed zeal for commencements," and Fran himself estimated that he has attended over 200 commencements in his career as an educator - which may be some sort of a record.
Bob Marr reports that the western reunion in June at Ojai was equally successful and enjoyed by the Christmans, Clows, Fleischmans, Humphreys, Rodis, and Tunnicliffs.

Bill is Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at State University of New York and a renowned authority on the Iroquois. Celie French has spent the summer at Sakonnet and plans to be in Woodstock in October.
Brownie Neff, who received an electrical engineering degree from Case Institute in 1932, was honored with the Case Achievement Award in May. Under Lee Sturman's direction, 1930 contributed over $68,000 to the 1978 Alumni Fund. He has for many years kept 1930 on top in dollar amounts and participation. He has now decided to withdraw from the assignment, and we extend to him our gratitude for the great job he has done. Skip Sturman '70 has been appointed assistant director of career development for the College. Sam Hutchins, Brattleboro banker, has been appointed to the Connecticut River flood control commission by Governor Snelling.
Set your sights for June 1980.
