JUNE 1978 PAUL B. LYNCH

For those fortunate enough to be in Hanover for the Class Officers Weekend it was a grand and glorious time, with co-operation from the weather. Over the course of the weekend some 33 classmates and spouses appeared, and 31 were present for the usual superb dinner served at the Outing Club on Saturday evening. There is one place that has definitely not lost its touch of class. (Ouch!) After the dinner the wives forced us men to watch the Miss U.S.A. tryout pageant, with Miss Wyoming being a Dartmouth undergraduate! Many of us were called but few of us lasted for the entire program.

Among those who were unfortunate enough not to be present, and greatly missed, were Norb and Pic Hofman. (Norb was detained at his Newsweek office), Milt and Marge Johnston (who were at the point of leaving on a trip to England), Clay and Ellen Mellor, and Joe andLibby Millimet. Those of you who were not able to attend can atone by showing up for the class weekend in the fall, scheduled for Friday- Sunday, October 13-15 (the Yale football game in Hanover is on October 14). So mark these dates on your calendar now. Room reservations should be made now at Bonnie Oaks Resorts, Fairlee, Vt. 05045, with a deposit check of $50.

A high point of the weekend was the presentation to Paul Guibord of the Dartmouth Alumni Award. When you consider he was picked from a field that included all Dartmouth alumni, you can see what a high honor this is. Congratulations, Paul!

Frank Kappler, our erudite "Tithe" editor, as president of the Newsletter Editors Association, presided over its meeting and jointly presided over the combined meeting of the class secretaries and newsletter editors. Frank has been serving as president in recognition of the outstanding job he does as editor of "Tithe." I am also happy to report that both Easy Guibord and Gerry Kappler graced the weekend with their presences. Incidentally, Frank and Gerry are torn geographically, with son Frank living 3,000 miles to the west in California and son Cliff being located some 3,000 miles to the east in London.

Jim and Carlene Stephens took time out from their busy schedule to be present Friday evening and during the day Saturday. Jim, as class president, presided over the class executive committee meeting in his able fashion. At the meeting it was decided to raise the class dues for next year to $15 This was made necessary by the steady increase in costs, including a substantial increase in the cost to the Class of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE next year. The dues increase is similar to what many other classes have had to do.

Mac and Ethel Hill, proud grandparents of a seven-month-old grandchild, were present and Eloise Gibney topped all of the grandparents present by proudly displaying pictures of the triplets of her daughter Sue. Hubby Al was also present, with Gib now serving as class coordinator for the Campaign For Dartmouth as well as covener for the area, whatever that means. Don't forget that your contribution to the Alumni Fund also counts in the Campaign and vice-versa.

Our Hanover contingent also showed during the weekend, with Eddie Chamberlain looking remarkably trim. He and his charming wife Mona are still faced with the prospect of putting two children through college. Phil Mclnnis made the arrangements for the Outing Club banquet and for the executive committee meeting held in his office. Tanna and Bob Fernald hosted another fine breakfast for all present on Sunday morning prior to departure. It was also nice to see Don and Lucia Ballantyne, who practically qualify for this group as they live in nearby Grantham.

Peggy and Bob Keeler came in from Cincinnati, and Bob played in a golf match with Al Gibney and Paul Guibord. It's still not clear who won, but Paul was heard muttering he would like to get them on the tennis court.

Phyl and Cliff England, who do so much in insuring that all our Class meetings are a success, were present and Cliff wants to remind anyone who has not done so that it is not too late to send him this year's class dues of $13 And Bob Fernald points out that the number of Classmates who have contributed to this year's alumni fund is low, and only you can change that!

It's a pleasure to report that my wife Cathie was present, as were Frank and Marge Curtis,Ray and Jerri Builter, John and Nancy Sawyer,Ed and Helen Higbee, Bill and Mim Macurda, and Art and Ethel Toan. All contributed to making it a most enjoyable weekend.

It is with regret that I report that ChuckAaron recently suffered a heart attack and that since having a by-pass operation has been in a coma. He is presently at the Veteran's Hospital in White River Junction. Our prayers and warmest thoughts are extended to his wife Lois.

And finally, a reminder that the annual lobster festival hosted by Tommy and LauraThomas at West Bath, Maine, is scheduled this summer for August 5. All classmates and spouses are welcome.

Jean and Len Harrison '34. left, and Hazel and Morrie Levine '34 join hands in aneighborhood pact in Clearbrook N.J., an adult community near Princeton.

Paul Lawrence Guibord '36 received a Dartmouth Alumni Award on April 28 "in recognition of his outstanding s ervice to his profession, his community, and the College." The citation which was read aloud at the presentation recalled Paul's Olympic quality hockey playing and his cham- pionship tennis skill and expressed grateful recognition of his generous acceptance of alumni responsibilities, particularly concerning the bequest programs.
